What is a sea breeze?

It is wind that blows from the sea to the land.

It is formed by the difference in air pressure due to the different rates at which land and water bodies heat up

During the day the land heats up faster than water bodies thus the air pressure over the land is lower than the sea

Therefore, wind blows from the sea to the land during the day to form a sea breeze

Formation

The sea has a greater heat capacity than land and

It absorbs more heat than the land, so the surface of the sea warms up more slowly than the land's surface.

As the temperature of the surface of the land rises, the land heats the air above it. The warm air is less dense and so it rises. This rising air over the land lowers the sea level pressure by about 0.2%.

Effects

Sea breeze affect the weather of coastal areas by regulating temperatures at night and lowering temperature during the day.

This inevitably affect weather indirectly as temperature is an element of weather itself.

When powerful cold front creates cumulus clouds, and if the air is humid and unstable, cumulonimbus  clouds, the front can sometimes trigger thunderstorms.
