Sandra McDonald’s Biography• Born in Kansas City, KS• BS – Univ of Mo. Kansas City 1959• MS Horticulture, Univ of Conn

1972• PhD Plant Genetics, Univ of Conn

1975• Moved to Virginia in 1974 after

marrying Ken McDonald• Has been hybridizing since the

mid 70’s• Worked at Ken’s business Le-Mac

Nurseries a wholesale nurseryspecializing in azaleas andrhododendron (later renamed Le-Mac Azaleas).

• Did hybridizing, worked withchemicals and computer work.

founded by Ken McDonald andJacques LeGendre in 1927

• Located in Elizabeth CityCounty, VA (now Hampton,VA)

• Picked for mild climate andaccess for shipping
