SAINT MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH

Ponca City, Oklahoma July 26, 2020 EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Rest in Peace: Please pray for the soul

of Wendell Hacker, husband of Janet Hacker.

May God grant him eternal peace.

There will be a 2:00pm Service for Wendell at Trout

Funeral Home on Monday, July 27th.

St. Gregory's Abbey is hosting a Day of Reflection - A

Deeper Encounter with Christ from the Gospel of John on September 12, 2020. It will be presented by Fr. Sean O’Brien, a Priest of the Diocese of Tulsa.

The Gospel of John offers a unique presentation of the Gospel message, one that leads us to a deeper and more intimate encounter with the Lord. Through signs, through the indwelling of God within us, and through being witnesses of Christ’s glorification, we are drawn into union with the Lord, the giver of Life. This will be a day of deep prayer and an introduction for a fruitful reading of the Gospel of John.

To register, e-mail retreats@monksok.org or call (405) 878-

5656. Cost is $30 (early bird) or $35 at the door. Lunch is included. Pre-registration is required. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with Mass in the Abbey Church and ends around 3:00 after adoration.

Dear Community of St. Mary’s,

It is incredible the time I’ve spent here with you. This

is the last note that I am writing to you, and as I do

this, many memories, people, stories come to my

mind. It looks like I arrived yesterday, but weeks have

passed.

Some seminarians get a summer assignment; this is a

program in which we are learning how is the life in a

parish. As a seminarian, I have been in many churches,

but this parish is more important than the others. It is

special because this was my last summer assignment

and my first one as an ordained minister.

I came here after my diaconate ordination, and I was

so excited and worried. I knew this experience was

going to be different from the others because I could

give some sacraments to the faithful. After a week of

my coming a funeral came, my first one, then I had to

assist for a wedding, and this past Sunday I had my

first baptism. As you can see, there are a lot of “my”

firsts, plus my first homilies.

When I look back, the only thing I see is grace

everywhere. The Lord has been so good with me, and

before I finish the bulletin I would like to say three

phrases. Thanks, sorry, and I love you.

First, Thanks for opening your hearts to the Lord and

being so kind to me. Your presence in the church has

nourished my faith. Every time I saw you in the

church you were so attentive, reverent, and polite.

Second, I am sorry, for the many mistakes I have

done. I also feel bad because I didn’t get the chance

to meet you more, every Mass I had I couldn’t stay to

greet you after them, and I am sorry that you have to

wear masks. Finally, I love you. As I said in the

beginning, this summer assignment is special because I

did my first sacraments at this church. Therefore, this

community will be in my prayers always, and the best

way to love you is in prayer. The last thing, please

pray for me as I continue in preparation for the Holy

Priesthood of Christ.

May God bless you,

In Christ,
