About Rockingham County A Tier One rural county-
economically-distressed Shortage of primary care providersAlmost forty percent of residents
live with incomes below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level
The child poverty rate has increased from 23% in 2007 to 28% in 2012
Student Health Centers’ History Morehead Memorial Hospital identified a
need to increase access to care for adolescents
Community partners came togetherConducted a needs assessment Defined services based on needs
assessment Opened in the fall of 1994 in each of the 4
high schools in Rockingham County
