Responsible Pet

Ownership Program

Dogs are wonderful family pets.

Make sure your dogs and cats are registered, so that if they are lost, they can be returned to you.

Make sure that children are supervised when they are playing with animals.

Remember that cats need to locked up at night.A cat run lets them go outside safely.

A scared dog looks like this. Stay away from a scared dog as it is most likely to bite.

An angry dog looks like this. It can be very dangerous.

If you see a dangerous dog: 1) stand still 2) keep your hands down 3) stand as quiet as a mouse 4) look at the ground

A dog wearing a red and yellow collar is DANGEROUS! Do not go near it – even if it’s a

cute, fluffy, little, white dog!

This dog is a happy, friendly dog, but you must not pat it if you don’t know it.

How to pat a dog that you don’t

know…

If you would like to pat a dog you don’t know, first ask the

owner. Make sure you are three big steps away from the dog

before you ask.

Let the dog smell your hand.

When you pat the dog, pat all the

way along its back. Don’t pat its face.

Pat in the direction that the fur grows. If it’s a curly haired dog, you can pat in

any direction.

Thank you for coming to meet us at Lara Primary School, Michelle and Snowy. It was

lovely to meet you both! We learnt lots about being safe and responsible around our pets.
