CROP PRODUCTION

RICE-PALAK-CUCUMBER was the BEST SYSTEM giving 4.25 times higher RGEY (38.6 t/ha) and net returns (Rs 2, 65, 119/-) compared to traditional rice– wheat system.

RICE-LETTUCE-POTATO was the SECOND BEST SYSTEM with RGEY (32.2 t/ha) and net returns. (Rs 1, 35, 228/- ha)

CROPPING SYSTEMS STUDIES

Nutrient Management Recommended dose of chemical fertilizers and farm yard manure is the BEST NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT STRATEGY under maize-wheat system (45 years experimentation)

LIME in combination with chemical fertilizers in kharif has an edge over chemical fertilizers alone in sustaining crop productivity and soil quality

CROP PROTECTION

Disease Management

• Sudden wilt of bottle guard: Score (difenconazole), Sectin (fenamidone 10% + mancozeb 50%) and Gomeda (carbendazim 12% + mancozeb 63%) @ 0.05%, 0.2% and 0.25%, respectively found effective resulting in > 80% control of sudden wilt.

• Target spot of cucumber

and collar rot of tomato have been recorded under protected cultivation.

• Foliar sprays of Folicur (0.05%)/ Karathane (0.05%)/ Contaf (0.1%) at 15 days interval were found effective in the management of capsicum powdery mildew under protected cultivation.

Bacterial canker is major problem in tomato and capsicum.

The identity of the bacterial canker have been established through conventional and PCR based assay as Clavibacter michiganensis.

Insect Pest Management

Management of Insect Pests of Tea

PIM 014 20 % WP @ 100 g a.i./ha was found highly effective against red spider mite (Oligonychus spp.) on tea, followed by propargite 450 a.i g/ha.

Propargite 42% + Hexythiazox 2% EC @ 525 + 25 gm/ha @1350 ml formulation/ha was found most effective against purple mite (Calacarus carinatus ) and mealy bug of tea, followed by Spiromesifen 22.9 % SC @ 96 gm/ha.

Management of Fruit Borer in Tomato • Sparay schedule consisting of lambda-cyhalothrin

(Karate 5%EC) @ 0.8ml/L, followed by dimethoate (Devigon 30% EC) @ 1.5ml/L after 15 days of 1st spray, followed by lambda-cyhalothrin (Karate 5%EC) @ 0.8ml/L ] after 15 days of 2nd spray was the most effective and economic treatment against H. armigera.

Management of Brinjal Fruit and Shoot Borer

• Evaluated 8 bio-pesticides and novel insecticides at PALAMPUR

• Chlorantraniliprole was found the most effective (83% reduction in damage), followed by cyantraniliprole (76% reduction in damage).

• 54.20-55.90 % reduction in Melia, Neem and Eupatorium. • At BAJAURA, quinalphos (Krush 25%) @ 2ml/L,

followed by cypermethrin (Auzar 25% EC) @ 0.30 ml/L after 15 days of 1st spray, followed by quinalphos (Krush 25%) @ 2ml/L after 15 days of 2nd spray was found to be the most effective.

Protected cultivation

Varieties in Pipeline

Two cherry tomato lines viz., Cherry Red and Cherry Yellow were identified for protected cultivation and are in pipe line for inclusion in the package of practices on vegetable crops

Two parthenocarpic cucumber lines viz., PPCG and PPCW were identified for protected cultivation and are in pipe line for inclusion in the package of practices on vegetable crops

RESEARCH EFFORTS to develop parthenocarpic cucumber varieties/hybrids for protected cultivation

Grafted Tomato

• EG-195, EG-203, ArkaNidhi, ArkaKeshav, Palam Pink and Palam Pride are suitable identified rootstocks.

• Scion variety Avtar grafted on rootstock EG-195 produced highest number of fruits (37.67 ), fruit yield (4.25 kg/plant) and harvest duration (40 days).

Insect Pest Management under protected cultivation Greenhouse whitefly in tomato • Fixing yellow sticky traps (@ 1 trap/ 10 m2) one week prior to

transplanting, soil application of imidacloprid (0.009%) one day after transplanting and need based alternate foliar application of thiamethoxam (0.01%) and spiromesifen (0.02%) (when adult population goes beyond 5 adults/ leaf) resulted in maximum incremental output input ratio.

Spider mite in parthenocarpic cucumber • Among the seven natural products evaluated against red spider

mite in parthenocarpic cucumber under naturally ventilated polyhouses, fermented butter milk (10%), darekastra (10%) and cow urine (5%) proved efficacious in suppressing the infestation.

CROP YIELD FORECASTING

Scientists of CGRT have developed a Crop yield forecasting model in collaborations with IMD and Indian Ins. of Agri. Statistics for MAIZE in kharif and wheat in rabi season for four districts (Hamirpur, Kangra, Chamba and Una) of HP. They are getting less than 10% deviation in it.

GRAMIN KRISHI MUASAM SEWA:

Under the project Weather based agro-advisory based on seven parameters at district level of HP for five days weather forecasts was prepared and disseminated through Kisan portal, University portal & IMD websites. Total 12 SMS during kharif 2016 were sent to 2.87 lakhs farmers of Chamba, Hamiprur Kangra and Una under jurisdiction.
