KEEPCLEARoftheAdvisoryExclusionZone(PTO)ThisNoticeistoalertallsurfers,kitesurfers,paddleboarders,canoeists,kayakers,sailors,jetskiers,speedboaters,shrimpers,swimmers,walkersandotherbeachandseausersofhazardsassociatedwithRampionconstructionworksbothonandnearthebeachduringMayandJune2018.Yoursafetyisourpriorityandwiththisworkbeingonthebeachandneartoshore,weaskeveryoneandallvesselstostayclearanddonotentertheAdvisoryExclusionZonesforthedurationoftheworks–seemapoverpage.

Scheduledcompletiondate:EndJune/earlyJulysubjecttoweatherThepurposeoftheworkistoremoveredundantSouthernWateroutfallpipesThelocationoftheoutfallisfromLancingbeachtoapproximately400metres(m)offshore.ThesouthernendofthestructureisbelowMeanHighWaterlevelandonlyvisibleduringlowspringtideperiods.Thisworkwillultimatelybenefitthearea,aswellasbathersandseausers,byremovingadisusedstructure.

Theworkswillinvolveremovaloftworedundantoutfallpipesincludingtheirconcretepilesupportsandcrossbeams,andaround100olderwoodenpilesupports.Wewillalsoremoveanyloosesectionsthathavefallenawayfromthestructure,clearinganyconcretepilingthatsnapsduringremovaltoaminimumsubbeddepthof2m.Holescreatedbyextractionofthepileswillbebackfilledduringworksandaspileremovalsproceed.Wewillalsobecappingandsealingtheoutfallpipe2mbeneaththebeachgradientlevelandwillthenreinstatethebeachtoitsoriginallevel.

SouthernWateroutfall TheStourvesselwithlongreachexcavatorOffshore,TheStourwillsupportalongarmexcavatortolifttheoutfallpipesandconcretesupports.Onshore,therewillbeacordonedoffbeachcompoundformachineryandsomeoftherecoveredelements.Thiswillbestaffed24/7byasecurityguard.Weareputtinginplaceaseparateturningareaatthetopofthebeachtoallowvehiclestoenterandleavesitewithoutimpactingthelocalroadnetworkandestablishinganaccessbetweenthecompoundandturningarea.Traffic-Theaimistoreduceandcontrolthevolumeoftraffic.Allmajormovementstoandfromsiteforheavyplant/materialswillberestrictedtooff-peakhoursintheevening.Therewillbenoparkingorloading/unloadingofvehiclesonthepublichighway.ThemainroutetositeforconstructionvehicleswillbefromtheA27,southwestdowntheA2025ontotheA259.TheroutefromsitewillbeontheA259headingwesttotheA24toavoidtheneedforHGVstocrosstheA259.Therewillbenovehiclesusingresidentialroads.TheworkforcewillparkatourBrooklandssiteandwalkacrosstheroad.Noise-Allengineswillbeinlinewithnoiseregulationsandwillbeswitchedoffwhennotinuse.Thisincludesgeneratorsandplantmachinery.

Severalhazardsarepresentonthebeachandfromtheintertidalzonetoaround1kmoffshore,whichposearisktobothnavigationandpersonalsafety.Thesehazardsinclude:

• Constructionvehiclesworkingonthebeachandintertidalzone;• Compoundstohousethewastematerialandmachineryfortheworks;• Exposed&submergedsectionsofoutfallpipesandconcretesupports;• Offshorevesselmovementsassociatedwiththeconstructionworks;• Anchorsoranchorwires/chains.
