Real Life Adult Bible Fellowship (ABF) – Apr. 12, 2015 3M – Movies, Media . . . and Ministry? – Introduction

Discussion Group Questions

1. What is the role of media in American culture today?

2. How does mass media affect culture? Do violent television shows and video games influence viewers to become more violent? Is the Internet making our culture more open and democratic or more shallow and distracted?

3. How can today’s media landscape help us understand what might await us in years to come? What will the future of American media and culture look like?

4. What is the difference between a gatekeeper and a tastemaker?

5. How has new media affected literacy and information consumption? How is this different from older forms of media?

6. Think of an example where free speech was limited because of social values. Who were the gatekeepers in these situations? What effect did these limitations have on media coverage?

7. Are there differences between the traditional media’s and the new media’s approach to popular culture?

8. What does the Bible have to say about how we should generally approach media?
