Relevant prior experience (1)
For RHIC arc dipoles & LHC D1 dipoles, cold masses are supported on 2 plastic posts separated by heat shield intercept plates within cryostat

Relevant prior experience (2)
• For RHIC e-Lens superconducting solenoid, for cost savings spare standard “CQS” cryostats were used
• Cold mass barely fit, centered inside cryostat→ vertical cylinders; “spool pieces” were added
to cryostat, downward from existing port locations, to house support posts

Summary
• Cold mass can be installed in preferred “downward offset” location with standard diameter cryostat
• “short” upper post and “standard” lower post permit assembly while reducing heat load
• Cryostat cylinder extension retains full function of existing design and fits within clearance of present (BNL) LHC insertion tooling
Alternately, if desired cryostat extension could be used with slightly increased diameter cryostat & centered cold mass to reduce heat load (also favorable due to saturation?)
