boycott- to refuse to buy things from a company until conditions are changed

fasting- a peaceful way to protest by not eating food

strike- when a group of workers stop working until conditions are changed

migrant worker- people who move around the country harvesting seasonal crops

union- a group of workers who join together to seek fair treatment and better pay

Fasting (ex. Chavez fasted for 36 days to bring attention to health hazards farm workers are exposed to by coming in contact with pesticides.)

Nonviolent Ways to Fight

A State HolidayChavez’s birthday is an official state holiday in eight states. California is one of them. Cesar Chavez Day promotes service to the community in honor of Chavez's life and work. This day is celebrated on March 31st or the appropriate Monday or Friday nearest that date.
