OBJECTIVESOBJECTIVESOBJECTIVES
It is estimated that newborn hearing screening correctly identifies
3-6 babies with hearing loss per 1000 births. It is understood that
many other children will acquire hearing loss or have progression
of existing hearing loss. CMV, surgical intervention, and
treatments for pediatric cancer are contributing factors for hearing
loss in many of the children we treat. Additionally, a significant
number of these children will have concomitant concerns that
include balance disorders and tinnitus. We know that correctly
identifying etiology and understanding the role plasticity plays
will impact our ability to provide successful treatment to children
with progressive hearing loss. Our speakers will give a unique
perspective on the impact progressive hearing loss plays in the
lives of the many children we see. In addition to addressing
diagnosis and management challenges, the impact progressive
hearing loss has on family stress will be addressed. Social,
emotional and educational placement will be considered.
Relevant case histories will be presented.
