The purpose of the ExhibitionThe PYP exhibition has a number of key purposes:

● Engage in an in-depth, collaborative inquiry.● Opportunity to demonstrate independence and responsibility for your own learning.● Opportunity to explore multiple perspectives.● Apply learning from previous years and to reflect upon the PYP journey.● An authentic process for assessing student understanding.● Demonstrate how students can take action as a result of their learning.● Unite the school community in a collaborative experience that incorporates the essential elements of the PYP.● Celebrate the transition of learners from the Junior to Middle School

The process in 2010So far...

● Further developed their knowledge and understanding of the PYP.● Explored the transdisciplinary theme.● Discussed the four main parts of the theme.● Brainstormed issues surrounding the theme.

Where to next?● Discussing big ideas around the issues.● Deciding on groups based on shared interests.● Writing big ideas to inquire into.● Get stuck into it and have fun!!

The role of parents and students

Parents role:

● Help to manage work/leisure commitments.● Help to access resources - primary, books,THEN Internet.● Monitor homework diary daily.● Regular communication about progress.● Keep up to date with notices.● Liaise early with teacher if any problems.

● Take part fully, from planning to action.● Make decisions on inquiry choice based on interest.● Carry out own investigation as part of a group.● Meet deadlines.● Keep a clear record of the inquiry journey.● Use a variety of sources.● Present and celebrate the journey in creative ways.● Take action and make a difference.

Assistance at school

There are many ways you can help your child throughout the Year 6 PYP Exhibition while at school. These include:

● In-class inquiry assistance● In-class art assistance● Helping groups with their inquiries – accessing primary resources, trips etc.● Proofing student work● Cutting and framing work for display
