Indian Railways Rail was introduced in madras in 1832. first train
in Indian railways was between Mumbai to thane in 16th April 1853.
There are 17 zones in Indian railways. Jaipur junction was established in 1875 and in
2002 it was made as NWR rail division One of the India's most luxurious train the place
on wheels stops at Jaipur. Indian railway is second biggest electrified
system after Russia. In India 21,000 km of total routes are electrified. Revenue of Indian railways is approx.
Types of traction system
System of traction:-1. Non-electric traction system ex.- Direct system engine drive2. Electric traction system a. self contained locomotives b. electric vehicles fed from distribution networks
NON ELECTRIC TRACTION SYSTEM COACHES
COACHES On the self generating two tier AC Coaches, Chair car and
compressor coaches two brushless alternators of 18 KW capacities are provided.
The DC outputs from the two alternators are paralleled with the battery.
In mid-on generation coaches usually 30KV brush less alternators are used and generation are nearly 415v- three phase 5 cycles.
On end-on generation coaches power is at 750V AC or 415V AC stepped down at 110v AC
Express trains having load using EOG coaches. Both EOG and MOD coaches the light and fan are used at 110V AC

MOTOR TYPES USED IN AC COACHES
MAJOR EQUIPMENTS BRUSHLESS ALTERNATORS:- Induction type alternators used in non AC coaches are
4.5W/37.5A/120V DC .185KW 2 Unit in parallel with RRU, battery, brushless alternators are used on AC coaches
The brushless alternators with the help of static rectifier cum regulator unit
is capable of developing voltage from minimum speed to maximum speed
RECTIFIER CUM REGULATOR Rectifier cum regulator unit:- RRU is connected just beside the alternator to rectify the output of the
generator A magnetic amplifier is connected which convert three phase input to
110v DC A safety fuse of 10amp is connected to prevent the RRU box from
abnormal conditions RRU have following functions:- To rectify the 3-phase AC output the alternator through DC full wave
rectifier Regulate the voltage generated by alternator at the set value Regulate the output current
BATTERY AND CHARGING TERMINALS The output of RRU is given to battery box to charge the battery In a Non AC-coaches the battery contains 18 cells(6v/120Ah each) In AC-coaches battery contains 56 cells(2v/1100Ah each) BCT is provided for external charging for the batteries at station or
maintenance lines Used battery in train are VRLA(Valve regulated lead acid) Advantages are:--- Topping up is not required Periodical checking of specific gravity is not required Regular maintenance to avoid sulphation of terminals and connections
are not required
ROTARY JUNCTION BOX Rotary junction box are provided inside the coaches. It is used to arrange and control the power supply to various
circuit of coaches( light ,fans etc.) with the help of rotary switches.
4 Rotary switches are connected in box.
1st switch is used to supply 70% light in coaches 2nd switch is used to supply 30% light in coaches 3rd switch is used to supply load of fans in coaches 4rth switch is known as EFT switch
FLOURACENT TUBE LIGHT
IT is a 2 feet long 18watt light provided in coach of sitting gallery and 11watt for toilet gallery's
It works on 110v DC supply It give light at 30% and 70% capacity load . EMERGENCY FEED TERMINALS:----- It is provided at the both the end of the coaches to feed the additional
supply to adjacent the coaches in case of emergency Supply from the healthy coach may be extended to dark coach of
connected wire(1.5x2mtr) for supply to positive and negative terminals of EFTS
conclusion
Practical training is most important of every student to clearify the idea about the particular subject or work
To improve the technical skills
