Introduction
Packaging Industry is undergoing transformation almost every day with emerging
technologies. These innovations are supported by the various stakeholders in the entire
supply chain.
There are Two Types of Food Packaging Markets base:
1, Consumer Requirements
a. Food SafetyMost Important
b. ConvenienceEase of Use
c. Shelf Life Required
d. Branding & Identification Requirements
e. Regulatory Requirements
2, Industrial Requirements
a. Environment AwarenessLCA studies

Functional
Active: actively works to preserve thecontainers contents. Active packaging effectively
works harder to sustain package contents.
Intelligent Packaging: - Intelligent packaging actslike brain. It senses and informs, detectingenvironmental changes and reflecting them
visually

Active Packaging Intelligent Packaging Systems
It actively changes the condition of the
package product to extend its shelf life
or improve food safety or sensory
property while maintaining the quality of
the food.
It has ability to monitor the product,
senses the environment inside or outside
the package and communicates with
consumer with direct visual changes.

Anti-Microbial Packaging :Packaging can be enhanced to actively
reduce the growth of harmful microbes.
Antibacterial coatings most often use
silver nano-particles
Ethylene Absorbers:Ethylene is evolved during ripeningprocess. The palladium based
compounds scavenges the ethylene to
prolong ripening process.

Oxygen Absorber:
Additives absorbs both the oxygen
that penetrates through the
outside of the packaging and also
the oxygen in the headspace.

Time Temperature Indicator: -These intelligent packaging can detect if
the food has been exposed to
inadequate conditions of storage,
parameter useful to verify the quality,
for example, a refrigerated food or a
frozen.

Leakage Indicator: - Leakage of O2or CO2 will changes the colour due to
chemical or enzymatic reaction.
Freshness Indicators: -IndicatesDeterioration or lack of freshness . It is
based on the detection of volatile
metabolites produced by the aging of
foods such as carbon dioxide, diacetates,
amines (fish), ammonia and hydrogen
sulfide

Bacterial Spoilage Indicator: -
Biodegradable Material is used
which degrades and changes the
colour.

Nanotechnology techniques: -
Nanotechnologies are already used in the
manufacture of RFID tags, and improvements
in these techniques in the coming years willresult in smaller, cheaper RFID systems. This
will make them ever more common - it is likely
that they will eventually replace barcodes
altogether.
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification):
RFID tags have been used for some years now.
They work much like a barcode, uniquely
identifying a large number of products, but
they work at a distance of up to tens of
meters.
