PPP A2 POLAND TOLL MOTORWAY -SEGMENT II

Facts Project DescriptionThe contract comprises the Finance, Design, Construction and Operation of a tollmotorway section with a total length of 105.9 km (87.4 km new construc-tion and 18.5 km upgrading) from Swiecko at the German border to Nowy Tomysl headingeastwards. Upon completion, this stretch will connect to the existing Section I, alsoconstructed by STRABAG. Duration of concession until 2037.

The complete motorway stretch will be constructed in concrete pavement, except for thejunctions and the 84 bridges. Altogether, more than 2 million m² concrete will be created.Therefore, 3 mobile concrete mixing plants are used on the construction site. The 27-29cm thick concrete pavement will be built in two layers using exposed-aggregate concrete.This pavement shall provide for good grip and shall reduce noise emissions. In total, 13million m³ soil have been moved for this project.A non-negligible part of the costs is being spent on measures to protect the environment.The 106 km motorway crosses through several Natura 2000 protected areas. Natura 2000is an EU-wide network of nature protection areas established under the EU HabitatsDirective (92/43/EEC) and the Birds Directive (79/409/EEC). Among others 14 animalbridges and more than 140 animal passages allow smaller and medium-sized animals tocross the motor-way safely. In addition, safety walls on a length of 2.5 km will prevent a rare andendangered bat species from getting on the motorway.
