TIPS FOR NATURAL LIGHT

A portrait at noon is very harsh lighting. Try

sunrise or sunset.

When indoors use available light from all sources (windows, doors, cracks)

If your subject is outdoors, an overcast day is

best. If the day is sunny, make sure to use a reflector or electronic flash to fill in shadows underneath the eyes

TIPS FOR USING A REFLECTOR

Use a reflector to fill in shadowsWhen outdoors can use the reflection of the sun. When indoors use the reflection of the main light source

Gold – creates warm tones and makes your subject’s skin appear a bit more tanned or golden (warm)

Silver – Neutral in color although brighter than white and skin appears cooler

White  - Neutral color effect. Gathers the existing light and softly fills in shadows to light your subject

tin foil (ALUMINUM) does NOT make a good reflector unless your subject is

blind or wants to be.
