kerchief called jedwabnica- silk red or white headscarf with floral designs, tied at the back with tufts of artificial flowers on both sides

blouse called bielunka - made of cotton or linen, with a collar and wide sleeves in a shape of bells, decorated with embroidered roses and with cutwork

beads - strings of natural coral beads or amber

frock - it is made of black velvet top emboidered with silk roses and a woolen skirt attached to the top.The colours of the stripes of the skirt are always green and the rest of the colours change.

zapaska - it is a kind of apron but always worn on top of the frock. The bottom and sides are bordered with wide velvet strip embroidered with roses. The ribbons sewn around the apron are decorated with sequins.

petticoat - under the frok there is starched linen slip.

trzewiki - the shoes are half-calf long black boots.The shoe laces are made of red or pink wool.

Everyday life in traditional cutouts

hat - flat black made of felt, with a brim and decorated with a wide band of bead embroidered flowers, ribbons, sequins, and a tuft of flowers on one side.

Male costume

lejbik - it is a kind of waistcoat made of woolen cloth, all borders are decorated with a red string. Buttons are made of brass.

waistband - it is 3 metres long, made of wool with long orange and green stripes

boots - black leather boots with a top, the ankle part is crimped

bielunka - the white, linen shirt with embroidered cuffs and collar

trousers - made of tweed, stripes usually orange and green

The tradition of wearing traditional costumes is still continued and alive only in some parts of Mazovia.

Łowicz, which is about 100 km from Warsaw is a unique place.

Many citizens are proud of living there. For a short time 1572 it was the capital of Poland.

Wedding dress

The wedding dress differs from the ordinary one. The stripes are of more delicate colours and cream is the basic.

The bottom border velvet is no longer black but it is cream as well. The most beautiful garment piece is the wedding cap.

Camisole - the upper part of the wedding dress is made of golden damask.
