Pinterest: Reshaping How We Teach Art History

Pinterest- Definition: “Pinterest is a tool for collecting and organizing the things you love.”

- Launched in 2010

How It Works: Step 1:

Go to www.pinterest.com and “sign up for an account.” Type in an email address and create a password.

Step 2: Create “boards” on your profile.

Common boards consist of: fashion, recipes, and home improvement.

How It Works Your profile should look like this:

How It WorksStep 3: Go to your “about” tab, and scroll down to the “Pin It Button.” Drag the button to your tool bar.

Step 4: Browse the web, when

You see something you like, Click the “pin it” button, Choose the photo you want, Select what board you want,And click “ok.”

How This Applies to Art-Pinterest, like Diigo and Feedly, is an organizational application. -Widely accessible by population. -Popular amongst high school and middle school students. -Easily accessible by parents.

How This Applies to Art-Students can browse the internet, and find artwork and movements they are studying in their Art History Classes.

How This Works-Students will be given an assignment each night to browse the web and find 3-5 photos of a piece of artwork, that is from the movement they are currently studying.

-They will contribute their findings to a common class Pinterest account. The username and password will be accessible to ONLY the students of the class, that way, they have easy access to the information for tests.

How This Works-Students will find photographs, click on the “pin it” button, and write in the caption specifics.
