LOCATION

The Picos de Europa

are a mountain

range located in the

north of Spain. It

belongs to central

part of Cantabrian

Mountains. Today the

national park Picos

de Europa is the

second national

park most visited in

Spain.

This formation extends by Cantabria,

Castilla y León and Asturias and has

heights above 2500 metres, because

it’s near the Cantabrian sea. The

Picos de Europa occupy a total area

of 64.660 hectares.

The Picos de Europa are divided in three massifs:

-Western Massif.

-Central Massif

-Eastern Massif

The Cares RouteThe Cares Route, placed in the very heart of Picos de Europa National

Park (León), also known as “La Garganta Divina” (The Divine Gorge), is a

unique route where to stare at nature at its height. Kilometres of path dug

into limestone rocks, surrounded by mountains over 2,000m in height, and

always sharing the untamed Cares River.

The original Route starts in Posada de Valdeón (León), crossed through Caín(León), and

ends in Poncebos (Asturias); it goes by the defile of Caes river. It is a 21km route .

WILDLIFEThis zone is where we have the most variety of wild animal species:

FLORAThere are over than 2000 vegetable species inhabiting

the park, the Atlantic forest abounds with a great burst

of color.
