Parts of Speech

A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun or another pronoun.

The word that a pronoun stands for is called its antecedent. ◦ It may be found in the same sentence or in an

earlier sentence.

----------Antecedent Pronouns

Personal pronouns refer to the first person (I), second person (you) and third person (he, she, it).

◦Ex: I think you should be nicer to him.

A possessive pronoun shows ownership and belonging.

◦Used to replace possessive nouns: mine, yours, hers, his, its, ours, theirs

◦Example: That taco is mine!

The following possessive pronouns can also be used as adjectives to modify nouns: my, your, his, her, its, our, their

◦Example: That is my hot sauce.

An interrogative pronoun is used to ask a question.◦who, whom, which, what, whose◦Example: Whose sombrero is this?◦Example: What can we do while we wait for the Mariachi band?

A demonstrative pronoun points out specific people, places, things or ideas.◦ This, those ,that, those
