Institute of Mathematics and Informatics
IMI established in 1956 (in the frame of the Lithuanian Academy of Science) 1990 – 2009 an independent state research institute, since 2010 – in the frame of the Vilnius University IMI has 10 departments, 2 chairs for doctoral studies Scientific staff of 121 persons, including 29 habil. doctors, 48 PhD, and 60 doctoral students
The UNESCO Chair Informatics for the Humanities and Multimedia Centre for the Humanities organizes periodically the intensive courses in modern information technologies for adult learners.

IMI is an initiator and a leader of safeguarding cultural heritage in digital space:
the first Lithuanian printed book celebrating 450 anniversary was presented by IMI online and CD at 1997 as the first e-book Lithuanian language resources for research and general users are stored at IMI repositories since 1995 The electronic resources on Lithuanian ethnic culture: language, folklore, ethnology, history, and archaeology, old manuscripts are stored at IMI digital repositories
Lithuanian Science 2008 Award for “Information Technologies for Lithuanian Language and Culture” was assigned to IMI group for 1995 -2007 works
