ClothingO Please dress your child in layers!

O When it is warm outside, it’s VERY warm insideO When it is cold outside, it’s still VERY warm

insideO Please send appropriate outerwear during

the winter months, students will almost always go outside for recess until it’s below freezing

O Please send in appropriate shoes, especially on gym days, if there is inclement weather outside

Snack/LunchO We will be having a daily morning snack.

Please send in a small HEALTHY snack for your child to eat. This will be a working snack

O The kitchen encourages you to purchase lunch cards for your child rather than sending money in each time they want to buy lunch

O If money is sent in, please put it in an envelope or wallet

O On 1:00 days there is NO LUNCH but we do have snack

BathroomsO Please make sure your child uses the

bathroom before coming to schoolO It has been an issue so far this year

with constantly needing to use the bathroom

O Please let me know if your child has specific concerns that I should be aware of

Scholastic Book OrderO Book orders will be sent home once

a month

O If you would like to order, please send a CHECK or you can order online with the access code that is on the front of the brochure

Special DatesO Field trip to the Library to receive

library cards in October O Gingerbread Houses – parents are

invited to help the children – usually early December

O Mother’s Day Tea is the Friday before Mother’s Day ( May 8th)

O Class trip is usually in late May or early JuneO Most likely will be a play or museum

trip

Behavior SystemO SOAR (safety, on task, act

responsible, respect)O Clothespin chart

O More positive reinforcementO Earn jewels on clothespinsO When reach 5 clothespin gets moved

to Mrs. Greiss’s Greats!

Balanced Literacy O Responsible for 150 sight words by the end of

1st grade O Reading at home every night for 20 nights is a

MUST!O Practice storytelling at home using every day

events

O Readers’ WorkshopO Writers’ WorkshopO Word Study O Interactive Read Aloud/Writing O Shared Reading/Writing

MathO Our curriculum is based on the

common coreO Common Core has a focus on fluency

in numbers through 10 (addition/subtraction)

O Other areas that will be addressed are measurement, shapes and addition/subtraction through 20

O Strengthen fine motor skills O Practice, practice, practiceO Posture

O Math O A math page will be sent home almost every night

O ReadingO Contract will be sent home soon regarding reading

homeworkO Still assessing where students are in their reading levels

O Spelling O Choice board will be sent home with weekly spelling

wordsO Complete work each night and return

Birthdays/AllergiesO Birthday treats are welcome

O We are a nut free classroom, so please be conscientious when buying/making treats for the class

O Summer birthdays can be celebrated during the last few weeks of school
