• As of April 23, 1999 Papuk is protected as a Nature Park due to its extraordinary large geological and biological variety and the precious cultural and historical heritage .

• In 2007 Papuk was granted the status of geopark as the first such area in Croatia. Currently there are 43 geoparks in Europe.

Locality Rupnica - basaltic rocks of volcanic origin in the form of
