“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the
Spirit enabled them to proclaim.”
Dear Family,
To anyone who has done work in translation, even if you were simply trying to express something to someone
who speaks a different language, there are any number of factors that can be difficult to navigate. There’s basic
understanding and then there’s importing meaning so it can be understood, appreciated, and tangible. Today
the Church celebrates its birthday when, empowered by God, it boldly went forward at great risk to translate the
most important message of all: God’s love and truth! The Apostles were empowered to translate the Gospel into
many languages, their limits into limitless hope, and their fear into courage. This same powerful and abiding
Spirit now enables us to once again translate as God’s mouthpiece to our world. Pentecost is today! We are now
being enabled to translate the fruits gained during quarantine to those who are seeking hope in an unfamiliar
world. We are asked to translate our faith practices to reflect our respect for human life. Like the Apostles who
faced real threats, they were able to face an uncertain future, certain of the powerful God they served, so we too
can translate that confidence, hope, and even joy to the world now. God is doing something new and though all
of us remain anxious to return to “normal life,” let us not miss this opportunity to translate our underlying desire:
to dream with God’s limitless hope! Happy Birthday to our beloved one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church!

“As we navigate through slowly reopening the church
and parish buildings, please keep uptodate on our
regulations for each new stage (operating capacity) by
checking our website:www.ologtaos.com, parish social
media accounts, and the office phone message. Fr. Daniel
will be updating us as often as necessary to help us remain
safe as our public parish life becomes active once again.
We are certainly excited, our faith makes this almost
automatic, but our reason must abide as we follow careful
regulations meant to respect the life of our community
members. Let us remain prayerful and reasonable as our
parish navigates through yet more uncharted waters.”
