About the TourThis is the 27th year of Open Studios Art Tour. There will be over 60 artists for you to visit and experience this year. All the information you need for the two weekends of art exploration is here in the tour guide. The same information is on line and you can access it by going to www.chicoartcenter.com. Studios are open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The number in each artist’s listing corresponds to a number and location on the maps. Look for the blue and white markers (see picture right) to help you locate the studios and enjoy the creative output of Butte County’s Artists. This is a rare opportunity to interact with artists, see where and how they work, and buy art at affordable prices from the artist who created it.
The Preview and opening reception at the Art Center (located in the old Southern Pacific Railroad Depot) will be on Friday night, October 16. This festive event provides the opportunity to see the gallery exhibit, plan your tour itinerary, and enjoy some tasty treats.
Studio ListingsThe number in each artist’s listing corresponds to a number and location on the maps. Beside an image of the artist’s artwork is the name, and address. Telephone, email and website information is optional. The symbol legend is on each page, in the tour guide. The maps are loose and folded inside the tour guide.

About the Chico Art CenterVisual Art ExhibitionsThe Center boasts an 800-square-foot gallery space with professional lighting, and a high open-beamed ceiling. It is a very desirable place to exhibit work and the annual call for artists elicits proposals from a wide range of regional and national artists. Group shows, as well as solo exhibitions, representing all media, are presented throughout the year.
The Discovery Series of exhibitions is designed to encourage local artists in the exploration and development of their respective mediums. Through such exhibitions at the Center, the diversity of talent that surrounds us is highlighted and recognized. The gallery also brings regional and national talent to our community through the Discovery Series exhibitions.
Members of the Art Center have annual opportunities to display their work in the gallery during the Members Show. Gallery visitors can view the always interesting and eclectic offerings of area artists at these shows.
Events and CAC ServicesOpen Studios Art TourA self-guided tour of local artists’ studios, in this exciting venue, art lovers and the curious have the opportunity to watch artists at work and to purchase art directly from the people who create it. The Tour takes place in October as part of Artoberfest, a month-long city-wide celebration of the arts. This year, the gallery show for artists on the Tour runs October 2–25 with a reception on October 16.
Art InstructionA variety of arts education courses is offered four times per year. Classes are four to eight weeks in length and geared toward specific age groups or experience levels. The Center also offers special workshops, lectures, and demonstrations by guest artists.
Mosaic NewsletterCAC is now producing an on-line newsletter, which is sent out every other month to all members by e-mail. This news letter includes information of interest to artists, announcements of upcoming events, and details about classes or workshops.
Art in the ParkThroughout the summer, at the weekly Friday night Concerts in the Plaza, children have the opportunity to do free art projects facilitated by instructors from the Chico Art Center. This introduces kids to a variety of art mediums and the fun of creating something they can take home.
