My face in the mirror isn’t wrinkled or drawn. My house isn’t dirty, the cobwebs are gone. My garden looks lovely, and so does my lawn. I think I might never put my glasses back on! A person who calls a rose by any other name is probably pruning. Protons have mass? I didn’t even know they were Catholic. Women’s lib started when women began to get tired of dancing backward.
“Why so sad?” “My lava lamp erupted.” Intelligence is like underwear; it's important that you have it, but not necessary to show it off.
My dog is so old he only chases tricycles. He was fired from his job as a taxi driver. His customers didn’t like it when he went the extra mile.
Daffynition: antelope, to run off with your mother’s
sister.
“I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Some-
times this makes planning my day difficult.” - E. B. White.

My Path to 100
Long, long ago when I was little, And once I must have been, So many, many years ago Heaven alone knows when,
I must have been something Like pretty and sweet. But all of a sudden, I grew up To seven inches and five tall feet.
My southern fine up-bringing Required a finishing school To be a proper young lady Because that was the rule.
Then I chose the proper mate, The one love of my life, To become a perfect husband And I as good a wife.
We seemed to be happy forever, Two sons, my husband and I, But the Lord called him home. We tried not to ask why.
Son John chose Westminster As a proper place for me. And I have been happy As I could possibly be.
What ever would I have done Without my special space, Protective care and staff, There ain’t no other place.
And now at age one-hundred I feel happy and content To share with wonderful friends All things heaven sent.

Greeting Card Sales News
The Westminster Village Foundation just wrapped up its 6
th Annual Gala; with attend-
ance and donations both at their highest yet. We are only able to celebrate the success of the Gala by looking with tremendous gratitude to our donors. With your support, through generous bidding on auction items and purchasing seats at the Gala dinner, you made this fundraising effort the best to date. The Gala hosted 112 guests and re-ceived over fifty-one thousand dollars in donations. If you were unable to attend, you should know that we honored a few special people. The Award of Distinction was presented to Lois Nuernberg for her significant contribu-tions exemplifying an outstanding commitment to Westminster Village during her many years as a Resident. The Leadership Award was presented to Mary Jane and Bill Waddell in grateful appreciation for their involvement in implementing and developing Resident programs that have strengthened the Westminster Village community. This year’s $2,500 Employee Scholarship Award went to Kelsie Rose Lane, who has vol-unteered at Westminster Village for many years and who now works on weekends as the Unit Clerk in the Weyrich Health Care Center. Kelsie is currently attending ASU. On behalf of the Westminster Village Foundation Board of Directors, we thank our Residents, their families, employees and Board members who donated to this event and for your continued support of the fundraising efforts to better the lives of our Resi-dents and staff.

It is summertime in Arizona. The air conditioners are running, people are leaving town for long or short times, and we at Westminster Village continue to enjoy the many activities that know no season. Do you play Bridge, Rummikub, Mahjong, Hand and Foot, Billiards? Do you swim? Do you read? Do you go to Friday night Happy Hour? Jayhawk Lounge? Donnelly’s? Do check the cal-endar. We hope to see you there! Oops, I forgot Brain Training. Can’t make it this month. Maybe next month.
Anyway, my point is that even if your friends head for cooler climates, there are new friends to be made and many things to do while staying at Westminster Village. Do not forget to mark your own calendars when The Villager hits your mailbox. An active sen-ior is a happy senior. Those friends who choose to leave for the summer do not know what they are missing. We, too, have stories to tell. Thank you Activity Committee and Food Services! And a special thank you to Maintenance for keeping us cool! Remember to attend the Residents Association Meeting on June 12 at 1:30. Tom Win-kelman will introduce very important people who are enriching our lives here at West-minster Village. Meet the newest managers on our campus!

You may have heard the story about the last living person who traveled west on the Orphan Train. From 1854-1929 about 200,000 abandoned youngsters were put on a train heading west. When the train would stop, children were forced to stand on a platform and farmers would pick out strapping boys who could work their fields or girls who could become domestic servants. They were free to any who want-ed one. A sad time in our history. The last living orphan to tell her story lives here in the Val-ley. She told the stories of good and bad so we can realize how precious our lives are. Each of us has a story to tell. Have you recorded your stories, so your life will be more than a blank page in history? Each of us is a treasure chest of wonderful memories! -Don Jones

South of Rochester, NY is a county park called Mendon Ponds. There are several ponds within the park boundaries, including one with a sand beach. At one time it was possible to rent rowboats there, which we often did in our pursuit of fish - Largemouth Bass, Strawberry Bass and Northern Pike. One day back in the 40s, my neighbor, Joe Maloney, and I decided to go fishing there. I was in my early teens and Joe was about 10. We were at the beach ar-ea. I don't remember the time of year, but the beach was closed, so it was probably in the spring. Anyway, we were using worms and casting out into the water to see what might de-cide to bite, when I heard Joe shouting "BOB! BOB! WHAT DO I DO NOW?" I looked over to find Joe at one end of his line and a duck flying in circles at the other end of the line. It seems he decided it would be more fun to fish for ducks, and now he had hooked into a live one. I told him to reel in his line, and we un-hooked the duck to everyone’s relief, especially the duck's and the rest of the flock that was all a-quack. Fortunately, there was nobody else around, particularly the game warden, so we packed up our gear and headed out. I don't know what the moral of the story is, but I remember never going fishing with Joe again. - Bob Miller
Oh yes! We know your name, the jobs you have had and where you came from, but we re-ally don’t know who you are. One wish we would like to come true would be to know fun things you remember in your life, like Bob’s memory above. We ask your help to make our Westminster Villager more enjoyable and to help us enjoy each other’s personal stories. So…would you help? Every one of us has events in our lives worth repeating. Share some of them with your friends.
You can send them on your computer to donjones2000@gmail.com or drop them in the mail box to #1016. Re-member, The Villager is your paper! Speak!
