The Academy is registered as an Independent Tertiary Establishment withNew ZealandQualifications Authority, and is accredited to provide EducationandTrainingbasedontheUnitStandardsfromLevels1-5ontheNewZealandQualificationsFramework.

This20weekfulltimequalification(FundedbytheTertiaryEducation Commission) offers each Learner the sameopportunity to achieve The New Zealand Certificate inSalonSkills(Introductory)L2V1(60Credits)TheENTRYCRITERIAtoHarrington\VaughanAcademySalonSkillsProgrammeissetbytheTECandtherearevariousentrycriteria.

However it is Harrington\Vaughan Academy of Hairdressing’s expectation that alearnerwhoappliesforaplaceontheFeesFreeProgrammewouldbe:

» MustnotholdanyqualificationsatLevel2

» Studentsmustbeunder19yearsatthetimeofstudycommencement(16-19Years).

» Studentsthatare15withanearlyexemptionfromschoolmayalsobeconsidered.

» Musthaveaminimumof2yearssecondaryeducation.

» SufficientLiteracyandNumeracyskillstosucceedintheattainmentofthisQualification.

» ProficientintheEnglishLanguagebothspokenandwritten

» Mustparticipateinaninterviewprocessfortheprogramme

» Mustbewellpresented.i.e.cleantidyclothing,hairandmakedone.

Additional assistance with Literacy and Numeracy is offered as part of thisQualification.Eachlearnerwillbegivenaninitialassessmentandthenasuitableprogramme will be developed to ensure literacy and numeracy issues areintegratedintotheircourseofstudy.Thelearnerwillhaveanopportunitytoimproveoverthetimeonthecoursetheirliteracyandnumeracyskills.

Thecontentof thisprogramme is focusedaroundthehairdressing industryandalllearningandassessmentwilltakeplaceintheAcademyItdoesnotmeanthatyouhavetowanttobeahairdressertocompletethisprogramme,theintentistogetyoureadyfortheworkplaceenvironmentbylearningabouttopicssuchasHairdressingCommunication,ReceptionDuties,Budgeting,JobSearch,FashionTrends&Image.

TheNZCert inSalonSkills isUnitStandardBased.Eachof the5moduleswithinourprogrammehaveacreditvalueandspecifiedunitstandardswillbeachievedatthecompletionofeachmodule.

YourProgrammewillhaveadesignatedProgrammeEducatorwhowillberesponsibleforyourgroup,however,itisimportanttounderstandthateachgroupwillbeinstructedbyavarietyofEducatorsforallcoursecomponents.YourProgrammeEducatorwillbethepersonresponsibleforthemaintenanceofyourstudentrecordsetc,andshouldbeyourfirstpointofcontactifyouareexperiencinganychallengesrelatedtoyourprogramme.

Programmeworkissetouttoensurethatyouareabletounderstandanewtask,beshownhowtocompletethattask,discoverthetheorybehindthattask,practiceandgatherevidenceandthengointoassessmentofthattask.

Theassessmentprocessisself-paced.Youmaybegiventheopportunitytoassessina“NaturallyOccurring”environment.ItismorelikelythatyouwillhavesetAssessmentdays.Itisimportantthatyouplanaheadtodeterminewhichassessmentsyouwantto complete and when you want to achieve them by. Your Educator will requireadvancenoticeofyourintenttoassesstoenablethepreparationofyourpaperwork.Youwillneedtoensurethatyouhaveyourselfpreparedfortheassessmentday.
