Simple Philosophy….

• Provide a reliable and affordable anaerobic digester that offers a means of managing waste and odor while providing an economic value to the client and community

• Share our own experiences in owning and operating digester plants

• Design must be economical, self-supporting, and expandable

Our Team’s Experience

• Designing, building and operating anaerobic digester systems

• Civil and mechanical engineering• Electric utility grid and natural gas

distribution systems• Permitting: site and air• Large dairy operations

Design Considerations

• Owner/Operator’s desire and skill level

• Feed stock for digester– Manure source– Substrate addition

• Retention time• Off takes: electrical, pipeline gas, or Bio-CNG• Animal bedding products (bio-solids, sand)

NB System

• Modified European design– Adapted for harsh temperatures of upper

Midwest– Total (complete) mix, continuous flow digester

• Mesophilic in operation (~100oF)• Heated vessel to maximize methanogenic

bacteria growth• Low energy use via timed mixing events

Idaho – Rock Creek Project

• Three dairy sites, approx 12,000 hd.• Connecting all three dairies via pipeline

– Use manure for digestion, return post separation for manure management

• Six digestion vessels, six million gallons• Nutrient removal post digestion, chemical

– 90% Phosphorus– 30% Nitrogen

• 3 MW electrical power generation14

Why a Northern Biogas System

• Experience in owning and operating• Single-source provider of the entire system• Design encompasses a membrane roof

– Increase in gas storage for peak operations– Easy to remove and clean vessel if necessary– Safety vent feature unlike fixed roof systems

• Proven H2S reduction without causing damage to the system

• Remote monitoring and operation• Easily expandable
