COMMUNITY CAREER DAY NORTH TRAIL ELEMENTARY SECOND GRADE

Friday, October 28, 2011

North Trail 2nd Grade Students learned about multiple careers courtesy of parent and community volunteers!

Where does our energy come from? Jason Haugen from Xcel Energy explained careers in nuclear energy.

He works at the Prairie Island Power Plant.

Students learned what a computer software engineer does and how education can play a part in preparing for that career.

Students prepared questions in advance and were ready to ask the guest presenters when the time was right.

FSN North Sports broadcaster Kevin Gorg presented. Once a teacher himself, he is also the uncle of a North Trail Student and was warmly received by the students!

Betsy Tupper, a Category Business Manager at Pinnacle Foods explained how food products she represents make it to the shelf at the local store.

Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Knettel described his work and showed students some tools of the trade.

Students had many questions for Chris Tadevich, an Airline Pilot.

The Community Career Day was part of a unit on understanding what shapes a

community. They made models and formed a “cardboard city” as part of the effort.
