General experience overview John is a well-known banking & finance and restructuring & insolvency practitioner with over 30 years’ broad industry experience. His career is roughly divided between working at Holmes & Bevan, the law firm he co-founded, and then at a leading international law firm, where he was Partner, Chairman, Practice Group Leader and finally Consultant. John was mentor to both our co-founders at Assured.

John has ample experience acting for secured lenders and insolvency practitioners. He has particular expertise in commercial lending and enforcement. His clients include financial institutions and specialist insolvency firms.

Major transactions Throughout his career, John has acted on numerous iconic transactions, including:

• Advising PPB Advisory on its commencement and growth strategies.

• Leading the team advising on the Challenger Howard Mortgage Trust over 2 decades, including lending and enforcement issues.

• Acting for the Administrators of Allco Principles Investments Pty Ltd, which won the Insolvency Deal of the Year award.

• Acting for the Administrators of Kell & Rigby Pty Ltd on the collapse of this large and well-known building company.

• Acting for GE Commercial Finance Corporate Lending in relation to a senior credit facility of $104 million to Huntsman Corporation Australia.

Pro bono work Earlier in his career, John did pro bono work over many years for the Law Society – Children’s Courts.

Recognition and awards
