An old oven from a smokecottage.  Jan is like a good elf of the house. In old

times every building had own elf or brownie and people had

to be kind to them. So they took a good care of the

building.

Masuuni BrunouFinland’s first iron

alloy smelting works was founded in 1746

in Juankoski. They used this kind of lake

ore iron.

Memorial crosses were made of  lake

ore iron at the foundry.

Masuuni BrunouAt the foundry they made irons, kettles, keys and locks, oven doors, many kinds of tools for homes,

farmers and factory.

A hundred years ago they started a wood refinery at the factory. After a couple of years that

brought an end to the iron industry.
