Communication Equipment Division - Environmental Policy -
Environmental-Friendly Products We strive to offer products that are environmentally sound in all aspects of product development including initial design, material procurement, machine production, packaging, distribution, deployment, customer use and disposal. These measures help minimize the environmental impacts throughout every stage of the product life cycle.
Management and Reduction of Hazardous Chemicals We strive to reduce and/or eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals that can negatively affect the environment and search for alternative materials that have a positive impact on both the environment and machine performance.
Promotion of Reuse and Recycle We actively collect used machines, parts and supplies from the market and with the intent to reuse and recycle to reduce our reliance on virgin materials.
We recognize that resources and environmental problems pose a seriousthreat to our society and that we must address these issues directly
through our business operations, products and services.
Promotion of Environmental Conservation in Production and Office Activities In our daily business activities we actively promote conservation, energy use reduction, waste reduction, recycling, beautification and “Green Projects”.
Compliance with Laws and Regulations We comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
Information Disclosure We actively disclose information on our environmental activities.
Updated January 1, 2008
We've adopted our Environmental Policy as a guide to realizing our business vision of “Environmental Conservation”.

Greenhouse gas emissions, 2004-2008[Tonnes carbon dioxide]
As a manufacturer, we believe an essential part of our sustainable environmental management must be to quantify and understand the environmental impacts of the entire product lifecycle. Despite the reduction efforts taken by the Inuyama Supply Center, which included the elimination of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) gases, our greenhouse gas emissions increased by 16% compared to the previous fiscal year. This was greatly influenced by the large increase in energy use at Muratec Kyoto headquarter site. We're constantly taking measures to improve the accuracy of our environmental performance data. Our future challenge is to show the l ink between such environmental performance data and our continuous improvement efforts so that the activities and results can be more apparent.

Conducting LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) to our products
We have conducted LCA to our product in order to identify the degree of environmental impacts that each life stage has throughout its entire life-cycle.
During measurements taken of each product life stage, it was found that the extraction of raw materials and product usage are responsible for the highest CO2 emissions. It was revealed that the manufacturing process accounts for a relatively large percentage of total emissions, a fact that will be a focus area for improvement.
We plan to use the assessment results as a benchmark to measure the outcomes of our environmental improvement initiatives. Moreover, we'll continue strengthening the implementation structure by conducting LCA.
● Assuming a 5 year period of product usage by customers, including consumables, the environmental effects are measured.
● Environmental impacts of copier paper are excluded.

China Energy Conservation Program is a energy efficiency certification that aims to stimulate energy conservation products. The logo design reflects the actual shape of Chinese characters meaning "energy conservation".
China Environmental Labelling Program is a Chinese eco-labelling certification, launched by China Environmental United Certification Center (CEC). The so-called "Ten Circle Mark", which could be literally read as it looks, is displayed on products with superior environmental performance throughout the product lifecycle. The certification process includes assessment against a set of technical criteria, as well as on-site inspection where the products are manufactured. Muratec obtained our first Ten Circle certification in 2008.
