Superintendent Update: May 30, 2014
Quote for the week: “If you’re not learning while you are earning, you’re cheating yourself out of the better portion of your compensation.”—Napoleon Hill
This update will be the final regular update for the year. I may send something out from time to time on a very irregular basis. I hope everyone has a wonderful summer and I especially hope that our kids have a summer of wonderfully enriching experiences. Learning can be lots of fun in the summer if students are able to access such things as our local library and summer community events. Please come back safely to us students.
The “Bomber Flyover” was held on Tuesday, May 27th. We had an enthusiastic crowd of students and adults to make noise and give out teacher grants in each of our schools. Thanks to Mollie Morgan, Executive Director of the Mountain Home Education Foundation for arranging a very organized and successful event. The teachers receiving grants were thrilled!
Enjoy this short video about lifelong learning.
Have a great weekend!

On Thursday, Coach Fulcher and Mr. Czanstkowski allowed students to donate money to “pie” them in the face. Mrs. Butler was duct taped to the wall for donations as well.
All donations went to the Make a Wish foundation. The members of the SAFE club organized the event.
Mrs. Hickman's Advisory Goal Revealing Party
Students in my class celebrated the year with some food, fun & a re-visit of their personal goals that were written at the beginning and sealed all year. We talked about what had helped us meet those goals and also the things that kept us from achieving these goals & how we could work past those "road blocks" for the next year. They are pictured here holding their hot pink goal cards.

Transition Day 2014
Welcome to the Junior High Pep Rally!
On Friday, May 16th current 7th graders from Pinkston Middle School traveled to the
Junior High and went through transition day to help them become acquainted with
the differences between Pinkston and MHJH. Current 8th graders met their new 9th
grade advisory teacher to begin building a relationship with them as well as learning
the difference between 8th and 9th grade.
Current 9th grade students who will be attending MHHS Career Academies next year
walked to the high school and spent the day on the high school campus. While they were
there they learned about the differences between MHJH and MHHS. They also went
through rotations throughout the day to learn about the daily structure and procedures
of MHHS. The rotations that the upcoming sophomores experienced were developed
from their ideas and questions that they all had. They were able to begin their day in
Dunbar where they had a pep rally, student panel with upper classmen, and a club fair.
They also were given opportunities to learn firsthand about Senior Internships. AP clas-
ses, Programs of Study, Completers, Articulated credit, Concurrent Credits with ASUMH,
met their counselors, had their ID badges made, and also voted for their student council
members for the 2014-2015 school year. Students also had lunch on the MHHS campus
which helps make them feel at home.
Teachers also had a wonderful lunch from Mrs. Fowler’s entrepreneurial experience
class who created their business The Runway Cafe . We all look forward to experiencing
future menu offerings from this expanding business. Please see Transition Day menu
below:
Students in Mrs. Reid’s 8th grade Algebra class left a poster (shown below) for her new
students for next year! “Just Keep Swimming” words of encouragement for her new stu-
dents on transition day as well as for the upcoming year!
The Students Voice!
Current 9th grade students entering 10th grade:
“The high school is SO large; I hope I don’t get lost. Being down there all day
really began to help me understand the layout of the school.”
“I really feel that students have a voice at the high school.”
Current 8th grade students entering 9th grade:
“Next year I am going to have to step it up, I am in high school now.”
“I am really excited about being on block (flexible) schedule; it will help me
get used to it.”
Current 7th grade students entering 8th grade:
“I like the lunch there and how we could play on our phones at that time.”
“I liked the seating in the cafeteria and the teachers seem nice and they are
funny.”
“I am looking forward to more freedom.”
