wise didn’t become arrogant in their times of plenty, they are the same ones who are patient in times of adversity. We know and live with a faith that believes that God will never leave us. He will be near us and provide for all our needs in our time of trouble, boom or bust. Those who don’t know Christ don’t understand this because they put their trust in themselves and barely acknowledge, if at all, that their success comes from God. It is through these good and bad times our faith is revealed. The common thread for believers is that we put our trust in God, His love for us and His promises. If we don’t do this we are testing God. Moses warned the people while they were in the desert when he said, “Do not test the Lord your God as you did at Massah.” (Deut 6:6). At Massah the people complained and ask, “is the Lord among us or not?” They had a difficult time with God because He didn’t fulfill their needs when they expected Him to, or in the way they wanted Him to. Therefore, they gave up and stopped believing. I’m

TRUSTING GOD IN TIMES OF NEED Hopefully, we have come to a place in our spiritual growth and maturity where we realize that God will take care of us in good and bad times. If you have been in west Texas long enough, you have gone through a few booms and busts. Doesn’t it amaze you how people act when things are going well? They live it up and show no restraint, enjoying the benefits of high oil prices. They live as if it isn’t going to ever end. Some recognize it as a blessing from the Lord, the old timers know that there is always an end, eventually. Then the bust comes, the bill comes due and it all comes crashing down. Those who were

so glad that believers today don’t have this problem (NOT! ). We test God when we try and dictate the time, place and way we expect Him to act. When we do this we are limiting God and what He wants to do in our lives. We want to avoid the pain, He wants to see us through it, knowing that it will make us stronger, strengthen our character and faith. Success or failure, boom or bust is not his goal but the path He uses to reveal himself to us, draw us to His heart and reveal His purpose in our lives. When we stop testing God and questioning His way and put our complete trust in Him, we move beyond the shallow mindset of the world and experience the true blessing of God; His presence, love, mercy and grace. Blessings!
