NetBackup Integrated Instant Access
ChallengeCustomer needs fast access to data that is no longer easy to access or not available in production
Solution: Integrated Instant Access for VMware
• NetBackup allows end users or backup admins to quickly search and find data that exists
in the catalog
• Mounts the VMDK and allows for access to the data in the backup
• Backup admins and end users can then instantly access the data they need which is in
the backup VM instantly
Integrated Instant Access for VMware
• Four options within Modern UX
– Browsing the file and folder directly from backups
– Downloading the selected file to local computer for further usewithout VM restoring
– Recovering the selected single file without restoring original VM
– Creating a new Virtual Machine with the selected VM backup
• New API’s for VMware Instant Access
– Other VMware enhancements
– XFS file and folder recovery
– Adds support for VMware Cloud in AWS

Instant Access for VMware
• Self-service access for VM Admins
• Simple & secure
• No agent required
• Any file system
Bringing new user experience to our customer
• Accessible from anywhere • New Virtual Machines added to vCenter hosts associated with NBU (VMWare)
• View the protection status of my VMware assets
• Pick the protection option available that meets my service level objective
• VMware – Full or individual file/folder restore to original/alternate location

IO-Filter
- Deployed on ESXi servers
- Taps raw IO-Stream coming from the virtual machines
- Relays the data blocks to local replication gateway
Replication Gateway (Appliance) - Primary
- Virtual appliance hosted in the primary data center
- Receives data from IO-Filter
- Bulk transfer - batch, compress, encrypt
- Pass the data blocks to the corresponding gateway

Replication Gateway (Appliance) - Secondary
- Virtual appliance hosted in the secondary data center
- Receives data from primary Gateway
- Apply data to the VMware data stores
