Mr C’s ideas for chess sets! The winter chess season is in full swing and we have a record 70 students playing chess at
school on Fridays this year. A good chess set is a great birthday or Christmas gift from mum,
dad, or grandparents. It is best to buy normal shaped, good sized, wooden or plastic pieces
and a sturdy board to fit. It isn’t necessary to buy fancy Chinese, Spanish, Harry Potter or
Lord of the Rings style equipment, as these are harder to play with. Glass pieces fall on the
floor and break. One student showed me his great set which had a good-sized magnetic
board and pieces so you could play chess in the car! Specialty games shops, bookstores and
department stores sell them. The Sydney Academy of Chess offers online a nice package of
championship sized board and almost unbreakable plastic pieces with drawstring bag for a
bargain $25.00 plus postage. A really special gift is a beautiful standard wooden set which
will last a lifetime. These start at about $100, but handy mums and dads can buy the good
quality pieces and make a lovely wooden inlaid board and a box to fit. Have fun playing chess
with your kids! Joe Cummins

Lost Property @ School
Just a reminder could everyone check
the names on childrens jumpers, hats/
beanies and coats. At this time of year
it is easy for children to take the wrong
item home.
There are still missing coats, tracksuit
pants and beanies , thanks !
