IntroductionIntroduction

• It is an digital speedometer-odometer which can be installed with a bike.

• Digital speedometers are found only in luxury cars and high-end motor bikes.

• The circuit uses an AT89C2051 Microcontroller, a 16x2 LCD display, 4N35 optocoupler, 24C02 EEPROM.

• It is better alternative to the mechanical speedometer & even beginner with min. skill level.

Circuit DescriptionCircuit Description

• Microcontroller :- A 20-pin AT89C2051 microcontroller from ATMEL is used with CISE-Based 8051 family.

• LCD Module :- It is used to display the speed & distance traveled, here used a 16x2 alphanumeric LCD based on HD44780 controller.

• Serial EEPROM :- Electrical Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory.

• I2C Bus Protocol :- It is MultiMate bus, it uses serial data line (SDA) & serial clock line (SCL).

6

• Speed Sensor :- It sends a pulse to the microcontroller each time a revolution is made.

• Optocoupler :- It is used to count the effect of bouncing.

• Power Supply :- The power supply for the circuit is drawn from the vehicles is 12 volts.
