Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi

Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi said these words about 700 years ago.

He was one of the greatest philosophers of his age. People know him for his philosophy of

peace, tolerance and brotherhood.

He treated all different opinions and beliefs with the same respect. The message of the popular Beatles song

"All you need is love" is one of Mevlana’s main principles.

MEVLANA CELALEDDİN-İ RUMİ (1207-1273)

Mevlana was born in Afghanistan in 1207 and then he moved to Konya. He was a worldwide philosopher,

theologian and poet.

The name Mevlânâ means “our master and president” and implies the love of people for him. The name Rûmî (pertaining to Anatolia) was given to him as he lived in Konya.

The young scholar Celâleddin, who took his father’s place after his death (1231), tried to help the people of Konya through guidance and to improve

his knowledge, which he had acquired in Belh and Damascus.
