Psalm 8

Who are we as human beings?

God’s Character

Thomas Tom Olaf

Hovestol “Toad”

Reverend Pastor

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name

in all the earth! (Psalm 8:1a, 9)

God’s Condescensi

on

You have set your glory above the heavens.

From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise

because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.

(Psalm 8:1b-2)

God’s Crowning

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower

than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. (Psalm 8:3-5)

“Who am I that the Lord of all the Earth would care to know my name, would care to feel my hurt? Who am I that the Bright and Morning Star would choose to light the way for my ever-wondering heart? Not because of who I am, but because of what You’ve done. Not because of what I’ve done, but because of who You are! I am a flower quickly fading, here today and gone tomorrow, a wave tossed in the ocean, a vapor in the wind. Still You hear when I’m calling, You catch me when I’m falling and You tell me who I am – I am Yours. I am Yours!” (Casting Crowns)

God’s Charge

You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field,

the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. (Psalm 8:6-8)

I derive my worth from God’s character. I derive my worth from God’s condescension.

I derive my worth from God’s crowning.I derive my worth from God’s charge. I derive my worth from Christ’s Calvary!
