foreword

Welcome to this stunning new sixth edition of Melbourne Style – the

latest volume showcasing Melbourne’s most beautiful and inspired

homes and living spaces.

As in previous editions we are again proud to present a diverse range of

magnificent and exceptional Melbourne properties: from cutting-edge

and contemporary townhouses, to classic and stately heritage-listed

buildings, to homes where intelligent imagination and creativity has

breathed in refreshing new life.

This sixth edition also continues the commitment Gerard Warrener

and his team of talented photographer’s dedicate to their craft at DPI

(Digital Photography Inhouse), and has been specifically created as a

photographic essay highlighting many of the city’s finest homes and

residences.

As always, Gerard’s partner in this project is leading Melbourne real

estate firm, Kay & Burton, to whom all the images have featured in

the company’s marketing campaigns for clients. And as can be seen

clearly within these pages, their commitment to excellence is also one

that delivers results.

Astonishing homes, sophisticated interiors,

magnificent gardens, leafy boulevards. No

wonder Melbourne real estate has become some

of the most sought after in the world.

From period homesteads to city skyscrapers,

from sprawling estates to single-fronted cottages,

very few cities can rival the scope and quality of

property that is typical of the culturally diverse

and elegantly executed Victorian capital.

In shooting the pictures featured in this book, we

have had the privilege to experience something

of all those elements and, in doing so, uncover

a little of why Melbourne will also be the world’s

most liveable city.

Gerard Warrener has changed the way

we look at architecture. A multi award

winning photographer and principal of Digital

Photography Inhouse, Gerard has pioneered

a new approach to photography with his

ability to see much more than just the bricks

and mortar.

Over the past 18 years, he has built an

astonishing gallery of some of Australia’s

most magnificent living spaces. In this, his

fourth book in the Melbourne Style series,

Gerard shares with us some of his finest

images of recent times and proves that, just

like the architecture that feeds his passion,

this talented photographer continues to push

the boundaries of change and excellence.

In creating and ensuring the quality of this edition of

Melbourne 6, recognition and a big thank you must be

given to the many people who helped this publication see

the light of day.

In particular we are sincerely grateful to the owners of all

the homes featured in this edition, and to the time you

have afforded us in allowing photographers and assistants

into your homes to allow us to record these beautiful

residences.

Again, my thanks are extended to the team at Kay & Burton

for their foresight in contributing to a volume of this

nature, and to their continued excellence in understanding

and selling the Melbourne property market to the best of

their clients interests.

And of course thanks to our wonderful team at DPI whose

dedication, hard work and unrelenting efforts to get every

property picture-perfect, has yet again produced another

volume any coffee table would be proud to display.

Focus on whats good...

Melbourne’s demand for better quality, more exciting, and more liveable real estate sets us apart from any other state in Australia. It’s also

one of the contributing reasons why we’ve earned and inherited the title: ‘World’s most liveable city’.

Here within these pages is a rare privilege to see Melbourne’s most prestigious and exciting properties at their photographic best – captured

in all their beauty as the world’s most liveable homes.

So join us now on our journey as we visit classic, contemporary, outstanding and new, as well as some of the cities most enticing and inviting

residences, in this all-new volume, Melbourne 6.

For nearly two decades Gerard Warrener has been photographing and compiling images of Australia’s most prestigious private

homes and architecture.

During this time, Gerard’s unique and fresh approach to real estate photography has changed the way we view property advertising

and has featured in leading newspapers and magazines. Head of DPI [Digital Photography Inhouse] and a multi-award winning

photographer, Gerard was a pioneer in the early days of digital photography.

Within this new sixth edition of Melbourne Style, Gerard showcases some of the best images of the past two years, continuing his

quest for excellence and innovation in the field of architectural photography.
