Measure 11

Measure 11 was created• To protect Oregonians• Minimum 5 years 10 months to 25 years

Prison• Unfortunately sometime it does the exact

opposite• Oregonians who voted for Measure 11

could face it’s perils too

False Allegations• Sex crimes charge on accusers word alone• 40% or more admit to lying• One persons word against another difficult to

disprove.• Many falsely accused plea bargain for lesser

prison• How is that Justice?

Disproportionate Sentencing

• Veronica is 27 yrs. Old- Measure 11 convict

• Put back of 13 yrs. Old boys head against her clothed chest

• 30 to 50 people present

• Does this act call of 5 plus years in prison?

• Oregon Supreme Court said her sentencing was unconstitutional

Attorney Fees: Sell The Farm

• Freedom doesn’t come cheap.

• The cost of retaining a private defense attorney costs no less than $100,000.

• Public defenders are widely known to be over-worked and highly under-paid.

• Using a public defender on a major measure 11 case is risky.

Reformation• Eliminate mandatory

prison for the innocent who are falsely accused.

• Allow Judges to sentence each case on an individual basis.

• Let those who deserve prison be put into prison and let their sentences be proportionate to their crimes.

Conclusion

• Sex crimes are horrible, however false accusations are horrible as well.

• False accusations can emotionally, socially, and economically destroy a person.

• We know from bitter experience that juries get things wrong. • Help reform measure 11
