Dual Platform Unit
This section illustrates typical installations, and gives electricalwiring details. Refer to Matrx Dental Vacuum SystemInstallation template 1042 1100 for physical layout guidelines.
1. Check that the unit(s) ordered meet the vacuumrequirements of the planned installation. Refer to the UsersSizing Guide in Section 2.5.
2. Requirements are:
C
20-120 psi / l.4 - 8.3 bar. Install 1/2" copperpipe protruding 1" through floor or wall with a 1/2" shut offterminating with 1/2" female NPT supplied by contractor orlicensed plumber. Flush lines clean before making finalconnections to vacuum pump. If well water is used, itshould be softened to remove calcium and other mineralsbefore it is injected into the MaxiMizer.
Each vacuum pump location requires a 1-1/2"sewer line with "P" trap terminating with 3/4" female NPTsupplied by contractor or a single standard utility floor sinksupplied by contractor or licensed plumber. For platform-mounted unit draining to a P- trap, a 1-1/4" female NPTtermination is needed.
MaxiMizer 1000 50 Hz pumps require a230 volt (190-240V) supply circuit. MaxiMizer 1000 60 Hzpumps may be wired to operate on either 115 Volt (95-120V) or 230 Volt (190-240V) supply circuits. Use 230 voltsupply when available. MaxiMizer 2000 pumps operate on230 volt (190-240V) supply circuits only and require adedicated 20 amp circuit.
The contractor or licensedelectrician is to supply 1/2" conduit and box with cover plateand 3 ft. of flexible conduit. For 115 Volt operation: 1/2"conduit and box with 20 amp duplex receptacle and coverplate.
3. Size and lay out the vacuum piping system using Table 3-1.Install PVC schedule 40 or type M copper vacuum lines perrequirements with 1/4" per 10' slope.
4. Check valves must be installed on inlet side of allMaxiMizers installed for dual operation. Install valves onlyhorizontally at PVC/flex intake hose junction. For all dualMaxiMizers that use standard P-trap drains, install a checkvalve horizontally at each trap.
5. Connect control wiring. All MaxiMizer vacuum pumps use24 Volt control voltage from a transformer and relay in thevacuum pump electrical enclosure to control panel On-Offswitches. This transformer provides power to the controlcircuit. The contractor or licensed electrician installs 18/3bell wire from the vacuum pump to control panel On/Offswitches.
6. If a control panel is not used, twist the red and white wires atthe MaxiMizer electrical enclosure together. A motor-rated
On/Off switch must be used.
7. Install the supplied exhaust silencers for all MaxiMizerinstallations those using an air/water separator.
8. Vent air/water separators outside. Add extension toair/water separator drain so that end of pipe is below lip offloor drain.
9. Upon completion of installation, check that pump operatesat a vacuum level of 10" / 254mm Hg with all vacuum linesclosed. If necessary, adjust vacuum relief valve untilvacuum gauge reads 10" Hg / 254 mm Hg by rotating barrelof the relief valve (see Figure 6). Do not adjust above 12" /305mm Hg.

WARNING: When the pump is operating, coldwater must continuously flow to the MaxiMizer tolubricate and cool the pump housing seal. If thewater supply is restricted or turned off, shut off theMaxiMizer immediately.
Failure to do sowill permanently damage the seal.
:
:
WARNING: Flush the vacuum piping system onlywith a non-foaming cleanser specifically designedfor cleaning of vacuum systems, such asPrecision Clense Plus, Matrx part no. 7700 0570.Do not use bleach or other harsh cleaners.
WARNING: To prevent damage to the vacuumpump when cleaning the system, draw both air andnon- foaming cleaner in to the systemsimultaneously. Place the evacuation tip atsurface of the container holding the cleaner sothat both air and cleaner enter the tip continually.Asolid stream of cleaner can damage the pump.
:
MaxiMizer 1000 & 2000s are designed for continuousoperation. For maximum pump life, let the pump runcontinuously, as the maximum load on the pumpoccurs during start up. As a rule of thumb, if thevacuum will not be used for more than an hour, shutthe pump off. Otherwise, leave the pump on.
For maximum pump life, the following preventivemaintenance must be performed.
Empty and clean the vacuum inlet strainer. Check thatthe black gasket is in the groove on the filter bowl.Tighten the clear filter bowl on the black plastic filterhead. Check that the wire mesh strainer is straightand not collapsed. Replace wire mesh strainer ifdamaged.
Flush the vacuum piping system with a non-foamingcleaner following the instructions furnished with the
product. This will not only clean and deodorize thepiping system, but the pump as well.
Using a dry rag, wipe off MaxiMizer to remove anyaccumulated dirt and dust, especially around themotor cooling vents.
Remove the cap covering the vacuum relief valvefilter. Wash and blow dry the air filter element.Reinstall the filter and cap on the vacuum reliefvalve.
Remove the service cap on the water inlet strainerand clean the wire mesh strainer. Re-install thestrainer in a straight position so it does not collapsewhen the cap is replaced.

7.1 Operation OverviewThe MaxiMizer is a water-ring vacuum pump designedfor use in a dental or medical office environment.Vacuum accessories in examination rooms andoperatories are normally connected to the pump bycopper or PVC pipe installed in floors, walls or dropceiling areas.
Fresh water flows through the water strainer assembly, solenoid valve, vacuum breaker and water flow controlvalve, and is injected onto the pump housing seal toprovide cooling and lubrication. The fresh water thenflows into the pump housing. The rotating impellercreates a whirling, centrifugal ring of water inside thepump housing, providing a nearly perfect seal to isolateeach chamber of the impeller.
The impeller is mounted eccentrically. As it turns, thespace within each chamber expands and decreasesonce each rotation. This changing volume of thechambers creates a lower pressure on the inlet sideand a higher pressure on the outlet side. See Figure22.
The water seal principle permits fewer vanes, largerchambers and a greater gap between the vanes andthe housing. This helps to minimize the damagingeffects of any unfiltered solids and debris inside thepump. The smaller mass of the impeller also meansgreater efficiency and lower motor starting torque
requirements.
The water is forced out of the pump housing into therecycling chamber. Vacuum created at the intake portin the pump housing draws a steady stream of waterfrom the water recycler. The recycled water mixes withthe fresh water in the pump housing and the process isrepeated. Once the recycling chamber is full of water, any excess is exhausted out of the housing andthrough the waste line.
If the injected supply water is interrupted, the pumpcontinues to run at a reduced vacuum level. Do notoperate the pump without a continuous flow of freshwater as this will cause permanent damage to thepump housing seal.
MaxiMizer electrical controls include a ruggedindustrial contactor for controlling power to the pumpmotor. Thermal overload protection automaticallyshuts off the motor if any condition causes overheating. The water injection solenoid closes whenever thepump is not running to prevent water flow.
All units are factory wired for 230 volts. A set ofjumpers, supplied only on the 60 Hz MaxiMizer 1000,allows it to be converted to 115 volt operation. AllMaxiMizers include provisions for remote, low voltageon-off switching.
