Matthew ColeridgeCORPUS CHRISTI CAROL
for SATB a cappella
Matthew Coleridge
A haunting setting of this wonderfully evocative Middle English
text, Corpus Christi Carol was my first published choral
composition, weaving austere Medieval harmonies with
distinctive harmonic fluctuations of warmth and cold.
The gentle, fleeting dissonances provide a wonderfully subtle
counterpoint to the bare intervals.
Recorded by The Queen's Six for BBC Music Magazine and

Music by Matthew Coleridge
www.matthewcoleridge.com | music@matthewcoleridge.com
A work of sublime beauty and quiet intimacy, hailed by Sir Neville Marriner as 'a valuable addition to the 21st century choral repertoire'.
Requiem is a deeply moving work, full of flowing melodies, soaring cello lines and startling choral textures. Duration 30 mins

Commissioned by friends Sheila & Mike Furse in 2016, to celebrate 50 years of marriage. Playfully depicting the colourful imagery in Gibran's poignant text, and the singing, dancing and joy that love brings... even after fifty years!
I was inspired on hearing Palestrina's In Monte Oliveti, to write my own motet for Holy Week, and capture the same atmosphere as the Renaissance master. The stark juxtapositions in the text - fruit and foliage against the nails hammered into Christ's hands - leave the music in a constant flux of consonance and dissonance.
Evocative and beautiful, the nativity is retold in the wilds of Canada, as 'chiefs from far' brings gifts of fox and beaver pelt.My setting of this traditional tune depicts the cold majesty of the frozen landscape, and the hard struggle of the miraculous birth.
My first choral composition, a haunting setting of this stunning Middle English text. The gentle, fleeting clusters provide an alluring counterpoint to the cold austerity of the bare, Medieval intervals. Recorded by The Queen's Six for BBC Music Magazine and Resonus Classics.
A gentle lullaby to the Christ-child. The piece has a restless quality - the unresolved cadences and gentle dissonance suggestive of an infant who isn't quite asleep.Recorded by Kantos Chamber Choir (The Silver Stars at Play) on Prima Facie Records.
