This powerpoint is a good tool to use to reintroduce students to the parts of the reference chart, so that they can effectively use it.

Mathematics Charts

•On the right hand side you will find a ruler in inches

•Conversations are given for Length, Volume and Capacity and Weight and Mass

•Notice that all units of measure include an abbreviation

•Example: ton (T)

•Centimeter ruler is found on left of the formula side of the reference chart

•Triangle, rectangle, parallelogram and trapezoid all have only one area formula

•Under Volume, it is important to remember that “B represents the area of the base”

•The 8th Grade STAAR Reference Materials are very similar to the 7th, so we will highlight only differences

•It is important to state to remember that “P represents the perimeter of the base”

Volume is the amount a figure can hold. Outline the volume section orange.

Af ter you have read the problem and circled or underlined the important information you will use your STAAR reference chart to find the inf ormation needed to solve the problem. Outline the answer box with the corresponding color on your reference chart DO NOT WORK THE PROBLEMS!!!
