Mapping the development of my idea

Cameron Shelley

How did my idea start? My idea started as a domestic violence topic because there isn’t many documentaries on domestic violence and it’s quite a uncovered topic. However my idea changed when I did some secondary research I saw a video online of a domestic violence case but people were laughing and not taking it seriously because the male was being abused. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PR5ryhnYtQ&safe=activeAfter watching this video I decided to change my idea and focus on male domestic violence. I also looked at the nhs website:http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/abuse/Pages/domestic-violence-against-men.aspx From this I found out the loads of men were suffering from domestic violence so I I contacted a site called mens advice line to try and arrange an interview.http://www.mensadviceline.org.uk/mens_advice.php.html

How was my idea developed? My idea was developed when I did a focus group to find out students opinions on domestic violence. In the focus group 4 out of 6 members said they didn’t think males could suffer from domestic violence. Also everyone said that they would take a male domestic violence case les seriously than a females. This developed my idea because it made me realize that I need to be informing people in my documentary. I decided in my documentary that a lot of the film would be a male who has suffered from domestic violence and try to find an extreme case. I wanted to do this because it would make people see how serious male domestic violence actually is. Also I am going to try and include lots of statistics and information in my documentary because that will show people in reality actually how many males suffer from domestic abuse.

Final IdeaMy final idea based on male domestic violence. I am going to include an extreme case of male domestic violence. I am also going to include in vox pops with members of the public. I choose to do an extreme case because I felt like people would not take it seriously. Furthermore I am going to film someone’s reaction to an extreme domestic violence case to get an honest opinion on the publics opinion towards domestic violence. In my documentary I am going to interview Men’s advice line about their opinion on domestic violence and why they think male domestic violence is taken as a joke.
