Not using the litterboxes
Peeing outside the litterbox is an act of marking territory. Is there a lack of number of litterboxes versus number of cats?

Maybe that litterbox is way in the open…
Litterboxes should be in a secluded area. Otherwise it's a deterance to use because it's too open and "not safe" for them.

Inaccessibility of the litterbox
That said, old cats may find it hard to enter the box, or it’s too far. Make entry easier for them, and at a convenient location for them.

KEEP IT CLEAN!
Clear the litterbox everyday! No one likes a dirty toilet, and neither does your cat(s)!

Type and/or amount of litter in the box
Sometimes it could be a preference issue! They might not find that there is enough litter, or the litter doesn't help bury their business properly.
