Linings

Lining – What is it?

A layer of fabric constructed separately from the outer garment and then joined at one or more major seams

Lining – Why have one?

A lining gives an attractive appearance to the inside of the garment

It also helps prevent stretching and wrinkling of the outer fabric

Some linings are added for comfort or insulation

Lining – How to make

May be cut from the same pieces as the outer garment

Seam finishes are not necessary

Use hand stitching to attach lining to garment along facings and hems

What Garments Use Linings?
