Q How often do you use the IWB in your class ? 1. often 2. sometimes 3. not often 4. not at all
Q What are the benefits/limitations of using the IWB in your lessons?
Benefits of IWB
• Supports whole class teaching• Promotes student motivation• Brings rich media and visual resources into the classroom task • Supports lesson planning and preparation • Provides access to authentic resources from real-world applications
Reference:‘Exploring Pedagogy with Interactive Whiteboards’, Shuck & Kearney, UTS 2007
Limitations of IWB
• Only allows one student at the board• Does not support activities which promote
higher order thinking skills• Does not support authentic complex tasks
requiring problem solving• Replicates old practices in technicolour - ‘jet
powered stagecoach’

Where to from here?
In this session we will:
• become familiar with JF IWB resources• think again about how to get the best out
of IWBs and IWB resources
1. Matsuri (Primary)
LELP(Language Enhancement Lessons Project) JF Sydney in collaboration with the NSW Curriculum and Learning Innovation Centre
• An innovative trial to deliver lessons to Primary schools through connected classroom technology
( IWB & Video conference system )
• IWB activities are embedded in a unit of work on the theme of Japanese Matsuri (Taiko& Rhythm, Yatai, Furoshiki, Yukata, and Bon-odori).
• Activities involve learning numbers, colour, location words etc. in the context of music, dance, food, craft and dress.
Features of JF IWB resources
You can• selectively use some of the activities to review
and practice what you taught in your classroom, e.g. Counting, Hiragana.
• edit the resource to match the topic and language you are teaching your students.
