Lesson 28

208-215 Al-Baqarah:

Topic of verses

O believers enter into Islam completely.2:[208-210]

The believers will rank over the unbelievers. 2:[211-212]

Mankind was one nation having one religion.2:[213]

The way to Paradise passes through trials.2:[214]

Charity and Fighting (for just cause) is made obligatory. 2:[215-216]

Verse 208

  ۥ ه� �� ن إ�� إ�‌ ـ ن� ن��ي� ٱل إ� ن�ٲ ه� ه� ا� ه�� إ� �� ن �ن ن�ا ن !" ة $� ن ا% ن' إ) ي( س* ٱل إ$ى ا� ه(� ه� ي- ٱ ا� ه.� ن/ ن�0 ن� إ2ي �ل ن ٱ ن%3 ه�ي ن%4 ـ ا ني �5 ة إ�� ه�/ �5 ة ه6 ن7 ي) ه8 نل

O you who believe! Enter Silm perfectly, and follow not the footsteps of Shaytan (Satan). Verily, he is to you a plain enemy.)

Theme of verse

Entering Islam in its Entirety is obligated

Allah commands His servants who believe in Him and have faith in His Messenger to implement all of Islam's legislation and law, to adhere to all of its commandments, as much as they can, and to refrain from all of its prohibitions.

ف�ي � �وا ل اد�خ� � �وا ن ام� ء� �ذ�ين� ال ا �ه� ي� أ ـ� ي

ة� �آف� ك � �م ل �الس ﴿ � �م ل �الس ف�ي � �وا ل ﴾اد�خ�

(Enter Silm) means Islam.

﴿ �آف�ة� ك ﴾

(...perfectly) means, in its entirety.

ف�ي � �وا ل اد�خ� � �وا ن ام� ء� �ذ�ين� ال ا �ه� ي� أ ـ� ي

ة� �آف� ك � �م ل �الس (O you who believe! Enter Silm perfectly) refers

to the believers among the People of the Scripture. This is because they believed in Allah, some of them still followed some parts of the Tawrah and the previous revelations.

﴿ ن� �طـ� ي الش� ط�و�ت� خ� � �ع�وا �ب �ت ت � ال و� ﴾

and follow not the footsteps of Shaytan

meaning, perform the acts of worship and avoid what Satan commands you to do

�ين* ب م� ع�د�و+ �م� �ك ل �ه� �ن إ

verily, he is to you an open enemy.

Verse 209

� �م�و2ا �ف�عل 5ت ـ� �ن �ي لب �م� اج�آء�تڪ م� �عد� نب �م �م �لت ل نز� � ي;ف�إ ٱ < ي ٱ ي� ي; ن= ي>�ه�ع�ز�يز*ح�ڪ�يم* لل ن�

Then if you slide back after the clear signs (Prophet Muhammad , and this Qur'an and Islam) have come to you, then know that Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise).

﴿ ت� ـ� �ن �ي �ب ل ا �م� �ك ت آء� ج� ا م� د� �ع� ب ن �م �م� �ت �ل ل ز� �ن إ ف� ﴾

Then if you slide back after the clear signs have come to you

meaning, if you deviate from the Truth after clear proofs have been established against you,

﴿ يز* ع�ز� �ه� الل ن�� أ � وا �م� ف�اع�لك�يم* ح� ﴾

then know that Allah is All-Mighty

in His punishment

and no one can escape His vengeance or defeat Him.

(All-Wise) in His decisions, actions and rulings.

Verse 210

م�ن� �ل? ف�ىظ�ل �ه� لل �ه�م� �ي �أت ني� أ �ال� إ ون� �نظ�ر� ي ?>ه�ل ة ٱ � 4 ي ي>

ع� �رج� �ت �ه لل �ل�ى و�إ مر�‌� أ ل و�ق�ض�ى� �ة� �Kڪ 25ٮ ـ� م�ل �و�ل غ�م�ام ي@ل ٱ ‌ A ه ي/ ي> ي>ٱ ي>ٱ ٱ

م�ور�� أ ي>ل ٱ

Do they then wait for anything other than that Allah should come to them over the shadows of the clouds and the angels (Then) the case would be already judged. And to Allah return all matters (for decision).)

Theme of verse

Do not delay embracing the Faith

�ه� ﴿ الل �ه�م� �ي ت� �أ ي �ن أ � �ال إ ون� �نظ�ر� ي ه�ل��ة� �ك ئ ـ� ل �م� ال و� � ام �غ�م� ال ن� �م ظ�ل�ل? ﴾ف�ي

(Do they then wait for anything other than that Allah should come to them over the shadows of the clouds and the angels)

on the Day of Resurrection to judge the early and the latter creations. Allah shall then reward each according to his or her deeds; and whoever does good shall see it, and whoever does evil shall see it.

This is why Allah said:

ع� ج� �ر� ت �ه� الل �ل�ى إ و� ر� م�� األ و�ق�ض�ى�

ور� م�� األ

(Then) the case would be already judged.

And to Allah return all matters (for decision).

Verse 211

ي> س6 ن� هي ن/� ن ‌!? ة ن. س� Cن إ! ة ني ن�0 ي� س/ ه3) ـ ن. ي� �ن ن�0 ي) Eن Fن إ0ي اٲ Aن Gي إ�� اى إ. Cن Fي Gن Hإ %Iن إ� يل ٱ ه6 إ6ي Jن ن� )� ن ٱل ن�= إ�% ن$ ه� �ي ن0 ا% Kن ن/% إ6 ي� Cن ن� إ/ إ� )� ن ٱل ن! Lن ي� إ�

Ask the Children of Israel how many clear Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) We gave them. And whoever changes Allah's favor after it has come to him, ﴿e.g., renounces the religion of Allah (Islam) and accepts Kufr (disbelief) ﴾ then surely, Allah is severe in punishment.)

The Punishment for changing Allah's Favor and mocking the Believers

ن� �م ه�م ـ� �ن �ي آت �م� ك يل� ء� ر� �س� إ �ى �ن ب ل� س��ة? �ن �ي ب �ة? آي

Allah mentioned that the Children of Israel,

They were witnesses to many clear signs

that attest to the truth of Prophet Moses regarding what he was sent with for them.

ا ﴿ م� �ع�د� ب ن م� �ه� الل ة� �ع�م� ن �د�ل� �ب ي ن و�م�اب� �ع�ق� ال د�يد� ش� �ه� الل �ن� إ ف� �ه� ت آء� ﴾ج�

And whoever changes Allah's favor after it had come to him,

then surely, Allah is severe in punishment.

Verse 212

ن� إ2ي �ل ن ن ٱ ا�‌ ه.� ن/ ن�0 ن� إ2ي �ل ن ٱ ن� إ/ ن= Aه Nن ي* ني ن ن�% ي� ه�6 ٱل Oه ـ� ن� Pن يل ٱ ا� Aه Qن Eن ن� إ2ي )� ن إل ن� سي Rه H? ة ن*% Sإ Aإ ي� Tن Cإ ه0 ا% ن� ني ن/� Uه Rه Aي ني ه� )� ن ن ٱل إ!‌ Lن ـ ن� Iإ يل ٱ Vن ي� ني ي) ه3 Wن ي� ن$ ا� ي� Iن �� ن ٱ

Beautified is the life of this world for those who disbelieve, and they mock at those who believe. But those who have Taqwa, will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. And Allah gives (of His bounty, blessings, favors, and honors on the Day of Resurrection) to whom He wills without limit.)

ن�% ي� ه�6 ل ٱ Oه ـ� ن� Pن يل ٱ ا� Aه Qن Eن ن� إ2ي )� ن إل ن� سي RهThen Allah states that He has made the life of this

world beautiful for the disbelievers who are satisfied with it, who collect wealth, but refrain from spending it on what they have been commanded, which could earn them Allah's pleasure.

ه.�� ن/ ا� ن� إ2ي �ل ن � ن� إ/ ن= Aه Nن ا* ني ن Instead, they ridicule the believers who ignore this

life and who spend whatever they earn on what pleases their Lord.

إ! ن/ % ن� Iإ ال � Vن ا� ني ا) ه3 Wن ا� ن$ ا�� Iن �� ن � ن� إ2ي �ل ن ن �

The believers spend seeking Allah's Face, and this is why they have gained the ultimate happiness and the best share on the Day of the Return. Therefore, they will be exalted above the disbelievers at the Gathering Place, when they are gathered, during the resurrection and in their final destination. The believers will reside in the highest grades in the utmost highs, while the disbelievers will reside in the lowest of lows (in the Fire).

﴿ H? ن*% Sإ Aإ ا� Tن Cإ ه0 ا% ن� ني ن/� Uه Rه Aا ني ه� )� ن ل ن � ﴾

This Ayah indicates that Allah gives sustenance to whomever He wills of His servants without count or limit in this and the Hereafter.

Verse 213

Xس Pن يل إCٱ Zن ـ �ن إ] يل ٱ ه) ه3 ن� ن/ ن> ن\ ن��4 ن ن� إ@ي إ2 ه/. ن ن� إAي س� ن� ه/ ن� ـ س� إ� .� ن ٱل ه� )� ن ٱل ن ن� ن� ن$ O" ة ن6 Sإ ن ٲ !" ة /� ن ه�4 ه_ %.� ن ٱل ن= %Eنه) ه3 �ي ن0 ا% Kن ن/% إ6 ي� Cن ن� إ/ ه ��ه ه�4 ن� إ2ي �ل ن ٱ ��ا ن إ�� إ� إ$� aن ن( �ن ي� ٱ ن/% ن إ�‌ إ$� ا� �Qه ن( �ن ي� ٱ %Lن إ$� إ_ %.� ن ٱل ن� ي� Cن ن) ه] Pي ن� إلإ6ى ي3 ني ه� )� ن ن ٱل ۦ‌ إ� إ� dي إ�% Cإ Xس Pن يل ٱ ن� إ/ إ� إ$� ا� �Qه ن( �ن ي� ٱ %Lن إل ا� ه.� ن/ ن�0 ن� إ2ي �ل ن ٱ ه� )� ن ٱل ن6ى ن3 ن$ ي)‌ ه3 ن. ي� Cن ن�% ن Tي Cن fه ـ ن. س� ن� يل ٱ

(? �Iإ �ن ي* ه�/ g?ة نAٲ hإ ـى نل إ�� ه0 ا% ن� ني ن/�

Mankind was one community and Allah sent Prophets with glad tidings and warnings, and with them He sent down the Scripture in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed. And only those to whom (the Scripture) was given differed concerning it, after clear proofs had come unto them, through hatred, one to another. Then Allah by His leave guided those who believed to the truth of that wherein they differed. And Allah guides whom He wills to the straight path).

Theme of verse

Disputing, after the Clear Signs have come, indicates Deviation

O" ن6 Sإ ن !" /� ن ه�4 ه_ %.� ن ل � ن= %EنMeans;

"They all had the guidance

Then :

They disputed and Allah sent Prophets

The first to be sent was Nuh."

ا ﴿ �م� ل � �وا ن ام� ء� �ذ�ين� ال �ه� الل ه�د�ى ف��ه� �ذ�ن �إ ب �ق �ح� ال ن� م� ف�يه� � وا �ف� �ل ت اخ� ﴾

They disputed about the day of Congregation (Friday).

The Jews made it Saturday

the Christians chose Sunday.

Allah guided the Ummah of Muhammad to Friday.

They also disputed about the true Qiblah.

The Christians faced the east

the Jews faced Bayt Al-Maqdis.

Allah guided the Ummah of Muhammad to the true Qiblah (Ka`bah in Makkah).

ء� آ �ش� ي ن م� د�ى �ه� ي �ه� ل ال و�

And Allah guides whom He wills

means from among His creation

? يم �ق� ت س� م� ط? ر� ص� �ل�ى إ

to the straight way

meaning;

He commands the decision and the clear proof.

Verse 214

إ/� ا� ي� ن( ن� ن� إ2ي �ل ن ٱ Fه iن /� ن ه]) �إ %4 ي ني %Lن� نل ن ن! .� ن jن يل ٱ ا� ه(� ه� ي6 �ن ن�4= ي) �ه ي� إ* Sن Vي ن�4ن� إ2ي �ل ن ن ٱ ه> �Gه A� ن ٱل ن> �Iه ني ـى �� ن Sن ا� هل� إ\ هRيل ن ه0 ا� A� ن kن� ن ٱل ه0 ا% Gن %4 ي ن� يل ٱ ه) lه �ي ن�* /� ن ه])‌ إ( ي� Wن

  Z5ة إAي Wن إ� )� ن ٱل Aن mي ن� ن�= إ�� اا ن� ن�4 إ�‌ )� ن ٱل Aه mي ن� ـى �ن ن/ ۥ ه� ن� ن/ ا� ه.� ن/ ن�0

Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken that even the Messenger and those who believed along with him said, "When (will come) the help of Allah'' Yes! Certainly, the help of Allah is near!)

Theme of verse

Victory only comes after succeeding in the Trials

ن! .� ن jن ال � ا� � ه( ه� ا6 �ن = ن�4 ا) �ه ا� إ* Sن Vا ن�4Or think you that you will enter Paradise

before you are tested and tried just like the nations that came before you

ه]) إ( ا� Wن إ/� ا� ا� ن( ن� ن� إ2ي �ل ن � Fه iن /� ن ه]) �إ ا%4 ني %Lن� نل ن (...without such (trials) as came to those who passed

away before you

They were afflicted with:

Illnesses

pain

disasters

hardships

ا� هل� إ\ ال Rه ن ه0 ا� A� ن kن� ل ن � ه0 ا% Gن ا%4 ن� ال � ه) ه3 �ا ن�* /� ن آء� س�� �أ �ب ال

poverty

آء� و�الض�ر�

ailments.

�وا �ز�ل ل و�ز�

for fear of the enemy, and were tested, and put to a tremendous trial

ول� ﴿ س� الر� �ق�ول� ي �ى ت ح� � �وا ل �ز� ل ز� و��ه� الل ر� �ص� ن �ى ت م� ع�ه� م� � �وا ن ام� ء� �ذ�ين� ال و� ﴾

They pleaded (to Allah) for victory against

their enemies

invoked Him for aid

deliverance from their hardship and trials

Z5 إAي Wن إ� )� ن �ل Aن mا ن� ن�= إ�� نا ن�4�

Verse 215

إ� يي ن6 إل ن�ٲ ي( إ( ن$ A? ة ي� ن� ي� س/ (�ه Iي Qن ن��4 ا% ن/ Fي Wه ن=‌ �Iه Qإ هي. �dن ن/% nن ن� ه(� ن4 ي* نيا� ه(� ن� Qي �ن ن/% ن ‌Fإ إ�� ن�* ٱل إ� Cي ن ٱ إ� إ]� ـ ن* Lن يل ن ٱ ـى Lن ـ �ن ن� يل ن ٱ ن� �Cإ Aن Wي ن4ا ي� ن ٱ

(5 ة إ(� ن7 إ�ۦ Cإ ن� )� ن ٱل ن�= إ�% ن$ A? ة ي� ن� ي� إ/

They ask you (O Muhammad ) what they should spend. Say: "Whatever you spend of good must be for parents and kindred and orphans and Al-Masakin (the poor) and the wayfarer, and whatever you do of good deeds, truly, Allah knows it well.'')

Theme of verse

Who deserves the Nafaqah (Spending or Charity)

This Ayah was revealed about the voluntary charity

They ask you (O Muhammad ) how they should spend

Spend i t on these categories or areas

�ن� �د�ي �و�ل �ل ف�ل Parents

�ين� ب +ق�ر� و�اال Relatives

�م�ى �ت �ي Orphans و�ال

ـك�ين� �م�س� Poor people و�ال

�يل� ب الس� �ن� و�اب Wayfarer

�يم* ل ع� �ه� ب �ه� لل ا �ن� إ ف� �ر? ي خ� ن� م� � �وا ل ع� �ف� ت ا م� و�

and whatever you do of good deeds, truly, Allah knows it well.

meaning, whatever you perform of good works,

Allah knows them and He will reward you for them in the best manner,

no one will be dealt with unjustly, even the weight of an atom.
