•Summary:
•Summarize if you want to record only the general idea of large amount of material
•Paraphrase if you require detailed notes on specific sentences and passages, but do not need the exact wording, you may wish to paraphrase-that is, to restate the material in your
own words .
Quotation
When you believe that some sentence or passage in its original wording might make an effective
addition to your paper ,
write that material as it appears., word for word ,comma for comma and place quotation marks around words taken from the source.
Plagiarism
•To plagiarize means to ‘’commit literary theft’’ and to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.
Plagiarism involves two kinds of wrongs:
1.Intellectual theft
Using another person’s ideas, information or expressions without acknowledging that person’s work.
Fraud
Passing off another person ideas, information or expressions as your own to get a better grade or gain some other advantage.
